I know that this has been discussed before but I wanted to share with everyone again since I've read a few new posts about this. The following works:

Original Porsche "nipple" style hubcaps for 5 lug wheels with clips etc. WORK on regular 4 bolt VW wheels. The actual inner hubcap diameter between the Porsche hubcaps and the standard VW Moon caps is only 1/16 of an inch with the Porsche hubcap being smaller by ONLY 1/16 of an inch.

One of the archival posts talked about what you have to do to stretch the Porsche cap to be that of the VW cap. That is all that you have to do. Simply mark on the new Porsche cap 4 marks where they line up with the raised portion of the VW wheel. Each mark should be 90 degrees from each other as is with the wheel.

Use a non-tooth plier or large crescent wrench (no teeth) simply clamp down on the inner lip and gently stretch out or pull up. Keep in mind that you only have to stretch the inner portion of the hubcap 1/16 of an inch total for it to easily "snap" over the VW wheel. You will have to gently do this for all four points that were marked out. The hubcap should snap on as do the moon caps.

I ordered my Porsche "nipple" hubcaps from Tweeks. The following are the details:

Tweeks (888) 489-3357
Part Number: 402-956 "Hubcap, Super 1958-62 and earlier cars complete with ceramic Crest
Price: $49.95 each

Note: You do not have to order the original clip mounting hardware as you would have needed for the 5-bolt wheel. I'll be more than happy to take a few digital pictures of the process if anyone would like to see further.

Pictures and a more detailed article would be nice. Remember that nothing is foolproof for us really talented fools. I'm probably going to be using 914/6 forged Fuchs 4-lug wheels or cast Mahle 4-lugs on the street but will probably revert to chrome 4-lug Mangels with hub caps for car shows ("Vanity, thy name is originality or the appearance thereof...")
Vanity is the only reason to do this, it certaintly isn't performance related.... We'll do anything for the "look"!

I'm not sure how much more detailed I can get in writing, that is about it. Very simple actually. Stretch the inner portion of the Porsche hubcap for a total 1/16 of an inch equally on four sides and,,,,,, whallah!! They snap over the wheel as do the moons. Just don't scratch the lip with a "sharp tooth" tool.
