I think that perhaps the Panamera is an answer to a question nobody asked. Perhaps, "Hey! Why doesn't we mate a 911 with an '82 Chevy Citation, and put a Cayenne engine in it?".

FWIW, Angela hit the nail on the head. The Rapide is the car Porsche should have been trying to hit- and I really like how the Cayman looks.
