I hope to have some 914 seats soon and want to ship 'em off to
a shop to have them redone; remove the headrest and reshape them to be more like 356 coupe seats, re do the cushioniong and re upholster them using the same vinyl as is now in the Speedster interior.

This will likely take some cutting and welding which we don't have around here.

Anyone know a good shop I can use for this service on these seats?

Thanks! I thank you and my a** thanks you too!---Jack

Jack (et al), don't rule out a shop in or near a marina.
Boat guys do this on a regular basis, and most of them can work a rolled seam into the edges in a color that compliments your car's paint color. It's not a complicated seat, or an expensive proposition.
If you were in Maryland, I'd recommend GS Upholstry, in Millersville. That guy, Gil, recovered a seat for my last 928. Phenomenal.
Jack-Can't really help here in California, but could check. See this web-site for visualization:
http://www.katzkin.com/main.html
Lower left, click "seat selector" and enter seat style mode (1). Proceed to "step 2" (outsides of seat pulse or prompt for selection: SELECT); then hit continue at bottom to (3); center of seat pulses/prompts for selection....you'll get the hang of it. Took me a few trials/errors. See if you can print out, or screen save, results if/when satisfied. (I scribbled down the color names to be able to repeat)
I'd take this or e-mail this to an upholsterer and request possible samples...if leather, you could bounce this off Dusty Johnson (Mr. Leather Guru).
Good luck. Forgive Vince, but DO ask him to re-post the "Gerd-on-Vacation picture". That one really does me in, although my wife thinks it's just plain old "weird"... + Denim seat covers are out!
Great info--I think I'm good to go now.

Mike--local shop--I'll see since Wolfgang advises they are not steel but fiberglass.

Lane--I think I'm getting Dave's 914 seats. Should be just the ticket.

Cory--I never thought of a marina---we have lots here with three large lakes--I'll check that out--thanks.

Scott--thanks for that site--I'll see what I can come up with using the variationa.

Vince, Vince, Vince.
