Just wondering if any Vintage owners have located any seats that
are more comfortable than the original Vintage ones?

My seat cushions fit inside a fiberglass "box" with the left and right sides of the box being just too close together. Not to get personal but I think my butt is a reasonable size for a 200# guy, ' 11 1/2" with a 37 waste. If my seats were all cushion instead of 3" of sides left and right it would be fine.

The actual seating ares for the coushions is just 12" so both my cheek outsides (if I may get techinical" end up on the left and right sides that are outside the cushion. On a long trip it's not comfortaboe to me.

I have seen seats that look like the ones used on early 60s 356 coupes--these are cushioned all the way accross and look really comfortable.

I'd appreciate any advice not having to do with dieting! Thanks---Jack

Why do you think I was asking Joe about his seats, I was hoping that the Procar-90 seat fit a Speedster. My 914 seats have the same lightly padded edges I was feeling this weekend. Kind of like a Mexican Saddle For those that dont know they are a little rough.
Today though I was wearing jeans and I fit a little better. I have a 36" waist.
The Procar 90's look to be sorta like roadster seats or VW seats with the seat all the way across.
and the head rests look fine also.

Here is Joe's seat he says he like it but it sound narrow http://treperformance.com/i-83906-corbeau-classic-bucket-seat.html
Jack,
IM makes their own seats and has them upholstered locally. I know that Henry will customize the width of the speedster seats as the customer "needs" for a correct fit.

As far as not available as parts, that may be the case, but a good friend of mine bought some gauges, switches, and seat shells for his Porsche engined MANX from Intermeccanica. He only bought the seat shells as the completed units were pretty darn expensive. The shells weren't cheap either. Sometimes you do get what you pay for.
Gordon---yes---I should do an email to Henry ---I guess I didn't want to bother him if I could get advice here from someone who has already gone through the seat swap.

You know---until I drove the 2,400 miles to Carlisle and back to Hot Springs I thought the seats were fine----and they were ok for short spins around town.

Thanks---Jack
George---tell me about the seats you have---I don't care as much about lateral support as I do about where the seat sides hit nme on the a**. Can you post a picture?---Thanks!---Jack

ps--I'm surprised that after maybe 3,000 cars produced no Vintage owner has improved the seats like I want to do. Wierd---J.
Justin & Wolfgang---my seats are the same ones always used by Vintage. BTW, I'm not knocking these seats really because for normal driving they really are fine. And just my opinion, they look a lot more comfortable than those "real" Speedster seats with the cutouts in the backs. I didn't notice any discomfort at all from these for the first 2,000+ miles. Just when I did the 2,400 mile round trip I noticed that a wider seat would be a welcome thing to have.

I believe that if the sides were level with the rest of the seat and padded like they are now, it would be fine. But the sides are higher than the seat part. Maybe I can have the sides cut down locally and use the same padding and vinyl that's there now. I just thought that there might be an easy swap-out that someone had done.

I certainly plan more long trips in my car ---maybe Colorado, Dragon Run and Carlisle next year ---I'll figure out something. I'll be in L.A. a week from today and maybe can visit Vintage and JPS---any other suggestions on where to look out there?---Jack
I was surprised that my seats seemed comfortable for the whole Carlisle trip this year. I've found that if I remove my wallet, they're the perfect size for my butt - as long as I don't gain any more girth. If my wallet is in my back pocket, however, they get uncomfortable pretty quickly. It's like they snuck into my house, doped me up, and took a mold of my butt - not a comforting thought.
You know, back in 2000, when I weighed a buck eighty-five- speedster seats were just about perfect and the cut-down "914" replica seats in a Vintage were less than comfortable. Now, 40 lbs later (!), the speedster seats in the IM (which fit perfectly in 2005), are "snug".

Somehow, for me anyhow, I don't think the seats are the problem.
