What is the most successful way to shorten the clutch cable?

The cable in my CMC was shortened using the threaded rod with the hole in it and a big nut to pinch the cable. Cable streached and no adjustment was left on the adjust end. Loosened the big nut to try to pull more cable thru the hole and found the cable all cut up beyond usage.

What clutch cable do I need for the CMC widebody and how best to shorten it?

Thanks to all input.

Yeah, I found out the exact same thing. I bought a few stock VW sedan cables and then took them to a sailboat rigger in Fall River, Mass (Bay Rigging) and he swedged on a new, metric end after cutting the cable to the proper length.

Original cable cost = $8 from a local foreign parts place.

Cost to cut and re-terminate with a new end = $15

Cost of a complete cable cut to length from Vintage = $25

Couldn't make any money at it, so made two for me and quit.

Jeff: Got any sailboat riggers in Kitty Hawk? If so, ask of they have 6mm or 8mm rigging ends for European boats (Beneteau's, etc). If so, they should be able to make up one for under $25 (but you'll need an original sedan cable to start with for the hook at the front end). If they only have English studs, then use a 1/4" fine thread and do some magic on the wing nut to make it work (use two lock nuts behind it).

Of course, it's easier just to order the right one from Vintage ;>)
