I just learned that what I thought were Kadrons on my '07 Vintage Speedster are actually Solex P 40s.

I see things about Kadron-Solex carbs---what's that about? Are these Kadrons or are they Solex carbs?

I learned that Vintage has been using Solex P 40s for some time now instead of Kadrons. I'd like to find a post or info on adjusting the P 40s.

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks to all----Jack

This started when I ordered new air filters. I rec'd filters that didn't fit my carbs. My old filters were 3" high and the ones I got were 3 1/4 (or so---but larger). Also the ones I rec's were a larger diameter.

Horace at VS said that they sent me Kadron filters instead of filters for Solex P 40s. This prompted my question. I can call Horace again next week.

Confusing to say the least. Also my P 40s (if that's what they are) look nothing like the Kadrons on that Kadron fix 'em site.

Does anyone wonder why we all call it "the madness??!---Jack
Gordo--nope--zero planes under the hood. My mom was a "Rosie the riveteer" in wwII and painted P 40s--there were the ones with the tiger teath. I still have her patterns showng what went where.

Damn--I hijacked my own post!

Leon--I'll call VS Monday for clarification but I was definitely told "no more Kadrons used ---switched to Solex P 40s" Hey--you coming to the Dragon Run? Gordon?---Jack
I have dual Kad's and the other day the car starting surging at idle 'all of a sudden' so I tried to readjust the idles to no avail. Which I thought was odd. Today went for a boot and stopped on the side of the road and tried again to adjust the idles and noticed the left carb was rocking a bit too much. Anyway kept trying to adjust when I touched the top of the left carb and OMG, the manifold was loose, real loose.

Note to self, make checking the manifold bolts on the check list

The stock 356 and 912 carbs were dual throat carbs with a similar number which is P40-11

I suspect that Jack has the single barrel P40

By the way, the P40-11 was a great carb but they had a problem with the throttle shaft. Over time, the shaft bore would wear and cause leaks. A good machinist cab bore out the carbs and install a set of press fit bushing for the throttle shaft.
