We still haven't got all the the results of the oil temps on this new engine. sence we cant get the car up to speed due to a bad automatic tranny to see what a load does to the oil temps.

But at idle for 20 minute it only got up to 155, I did use a type 4 oil cooler on a opened up doghouse fan shroud. it is a snug fit in the car. but it looks factory.

So far so good!!

Oil Temp ~

That topic has and will be "discussed" as long as there are Air Cooled Engines & Speedsters.

Most Air Cooled Speedsters at, normal engine operating temps, operat between 190 & 210 on ambient temp days below <100 degrees. On days over >100 degrees and under "Load" could an may see temps 230 degrees.

Everyone has their favorit engine oil and I have mine.

Watch your total Ignition advance( 28-30 BDTC, I set mine at 28 degrees and check it at 3,000 RPM for total advance) and carburation mixture (not too lean). Do a Plug Check to select the correct heat range (not too hot of plugs)

Keep correct fan belt adjustment and carry a spare belt.

With the automatic Trans; you are limited to RPM so if you are doing say 55-60 miles per hour on days with temp in the 80's you cold see + or - 180 -190 degree oil temp.

I live in a "warm" part of the US and during the Summer we see many days over >100 degrees and running the engine under load at 3,200 RPM @ 70-75 Miles Per Hour (4:12 Diff) I see 210-230 degrees. I run a Synthetic Oil 20-50W.Dog House Cooler & Auxillary 118 Plate Cooler & Cooler. Oil spectro analysis indicates normal suspended wear metals and no problems. Engine has <25,000 miles.

Many people will have their own opinions regarding these issues & their Engines and their geographic locations(Ambient) but these are mine.

Good Luck,

Jack
It was mailed yesterday morning Then I realized I forgot your spacer I have it in the the shop. I'll try to get it out first of the week. You will need it for sure!!!

I did not cut the out side of it. to spec's That should be the very last step so you can slick it out and polish it. Just in case you nick it or scare it. When you press in the collar. Youll have some play room.
