Since it is now in Dec, many are wondering what are the plans for a west coast get together.

The town of Paso Robles forced us to use the same weekend as their antiques show. Last year they moved the weekend to be the same as Knotts Berry farms car show. Knotts moved one week earlier for the first time in 20+ years. This year, Paso wants us to move again to this same weekend which conflicts with Knotts. In addition, the rain last year made travel to the event less than fun for many.

End result. We are actively searching for a different location, that is not only convenient and fun, but further into spring so we don't have the threat of rain.

Too bad to see the club drifting away from Paso. It has been a perfect venue: The town square setting, the motel layout, Mike's reception and Sat nite BBQ. GREAT backroads. Ann and I were really looking forward to our 3rd Paso. So it's sad to say good bye to that.

Not so much interested in driving 5-7 hours to meet somewhere in a vacant parking lot.

Are we saying Paso is out? or are we just looking elsewhere, Is the Paso park out of the question at other times besides this perticular weekend? Is someone researching all this....
Can someone call a few of the local wineries to see if we can use their facility for a show and still stay in the same basic area...
It has rained the last few years on that weekend, but I have to agree that that was a perfect spot. All the bars around the park, The hotel was good, the BBQ, not to mention all the bars around the park.....

We would be disappointed to leave Paso, too. It is a great location with the park, the antique show, the local pubs and restaurants and the convenience of the motel we all are so used to. That location makes for excellent camaraderie that will be dampened by just some parking lot somewhere. Without the park there would have to be much more planning for activities to keep us all together and having fun.

Why not conflict with Knott's? They gave us a hard time to begin with which is the reason for the first Paso. Has their attitude changed?

May is a hard time for many of us as quite a few other car events are already planned across the country from early May thru late August. April is a great time for our low key, Speedster family gathering. Also, don't forget the Colorado based National Gathering in mid-September.

Well, there you have our votes. What now?

Happy Trails,
Dusty & Sharon
Bill - be careful of crab-grass and gopher-holes!!

Theron - WRT Paso Robles Park, if SOC did a show independent from the Chamber Commerce Antique show and on another weekend (later in spring), how much would the cost of renting the park/permits and all that come to?

...or, because Paso Robles is such a nice area (re: Dusty) I think the idea of investigating the possibility of coordinating a Speedster Show with one of the area wineries would be kinda cool.
It is fascinating how easily and quickly a half decent thread can get totally side tracked. Just a little TnA and pow -- it's gone. This is why we have Vince . . . I wonder how it would all go and what it would look like if the SOC were nearly all women vs. what it really is. Man, that's a scary thought. Imagine: angela as Queen of the Torque Wenches. I'm thinking that would/could never happen.
The 356 North Meets South meet is set for April 25-27 at San Luis Obispo. This is a cool real 356 meet that we might check into joining up with in SLO. I think that Dale Bates hangs with some of these guys and they are replica frendly. I am not suggesting that we join the event, just that if the town is full of tubs already, it may be fun. It is sponsored by 356CAR. org. Check out the site, lots of nice pics of previous events and cars. Just a thought.
Will,
The North/South meet is open to all to walk around and enjoy the real 356s.
It is no longer open to replicas. They were voted "off the island" this year.
Although the group Dale and I belong to up here by Sacramento (356CAR, Alta Region) accept and enjoy the company of the plastic persuasion, the Central and Southern chapters do not.

Still worth a visit, just park your plastic outside.
Terry / Will;

This type of elitism is one of the reasons why I dropped my membership after 25 years with the POC/Orange Coast Region and eventually the PCA (other reason was sale of my last 911). And I don't mean just towards Speedy replicas, but even towards POC members with lesser (Porsche) cars (914/924/944). There was a time you couldn't even mention the word '914' at a POC event without receiving some kind of 'Grey Poupon' tight-ass look.

I really enjoy the company of my down-to-earth knucklehead SOC friends!

That's why I say, even having owned more Porsches than most POC/PCA members will, that our VS Speedy (with it's few imperfections) is hands-down the most fun car I've owned!

Peace - Out!
Hey Jim where do you live? My old girlfriend lives out there near pismo and she's in town visiting family. Anyway, she came by to see me and we were talking about cars and she mention these "huge car shows in this shopping center on the weekends" that she's seen. She knows my love for Ferraris and was telling me about how she was helping her friend walk her dogs and she had to pull one of them away from peeing on "this really cool red one that you'd of loved, Mickey"! (as if there are any in exsistence that I don't love) I'm pretty sure she was refering to the Cars and Coffee you go to? I told her I saw pictures this guy on a forum posted and I think he lives near there. Let me know where you live and I'll see if it's the same place. If a really, really cute blonde comes up and says "Are you Jim?" remember, her name is Janine.
