To kick off the official announcements, here's what we're planning...
-----
Paso Robles, CA April 21-22 2007

This date has already been determined by the Paso Main Street Association. Antiques and Crafts will be taking up one part of the very large park. Slots for vendor booths are available for $35 from the Main Street Association.

We are being given more than half the park. The Central Coast VW club will be joining us. Also in the works is an invitation for the 912/914 club as well as hand built and exotic car owners.

Friday, caravans from the N and S will be organized along HWY 1. Friday night we will have an organized event.
Sat, show up, drive around, meet people, shop, shine, play, whatever, show in the park.
We will have a very nice home base at the Adelaide (please don't reserve room yet) and a mobile BBQ operation will be serving us dinner Sat night for a very-very reasonable price. The cars will be parked for the evening so we can feel free to have a drink and socialize. Sunday will have and organized wine tour/drive.

Room reservation blocks, and complete details will be coming soon.

Last year was outstanding for a first event. The crowds of people and participation was shocking. This year should be even better.

If you missed last year, here's a little clip of the fun...

Sounds like that park is going to get PRETTY CROWDED with a presumably large VW contingent as well as the 912/914 group and then the exotic cars!

Will SOC get priority in space allotment for what will undoubtedly be a larger number of members attending this time around?

Would hate for SOC folks to get shut out because there wasn't enought room in the park for members arriving from all parts of California!

For what it's worth, I say let the exotic cars organize their own gathering of elite membership (not that there's anything wrong with that) for another date! Lets keep it an air-cooled event.
Theron - I stand corrected - I forgot how detail oriented you are and should've known you'd have all the logistics dialed in. My Bad!

That being said, if this next Paso meet is anything like the last one you put together, it'll be more fun than humans are allowed to have. We're really looking forward to seeing our SOC friends from outside SoCal!

P.S. - I've got some more prizes to donate for the raffle!

Peace - Out!
I suspect Vince would help pick out the Victoria's Secret items as he apparently has a lifetime subscription to their catalog...

One of the spyder guys (simonster) has been given an embroidered green thong. The embroidery is a spider. Quick smashing. Perhaps we can talk him into wearing it and then riding the mechanical bull.

Would definately be a picture taking opportunity!

Vince, I wish that there was a way to get out, nearly everyone in my group plus our IT group go to this conference. We are doing a major upgrade this year and need to get smart. This conference is causing me to miss two of my "can't miss" events, SOC and opening day of the eastern sierra trout season. It must be time for me to retire, work is impacting my leisure time. I am confident you will do a splendid job leading the southern group to Paso, once again.
Hi all,
New to the forum. I know Angela; she joined us on the Dean run November 2005. I'd like to join you for this run. 1999 Miata, green and tan, "vintaged" with chrome bits, wooden steering wheel, etc. Would you mind if I let the Miata club know about this event as well? Thanks.
To add to Mitch's post - James Dean 50th anniversary run in 2005. He contacted the spyder site and asked if anyone who was attending would give his dad a ride in their spyder. It was to be a surprise for his dad who is a GREAT James Dean fan. Sounded like fun, so I volunteered.

A couple of us (two spyders and Ray Armstrong - my speedstah buddy) met up with the Miata club at Blackwell Corner. Bear in mind, I had no idea what Mitch looked like... They all pulled up and we figured out who was who and then sprung the surprise on his dad.

Mitch - that was probably one of the coolest surprises anyone has ever given their dad! His dad hopped in with me and we drove to Cholame. Stopped, pictures etc.

The Miata guys are enthusiasts who drive, race and delight in little sports cars. Mitch is nothing more than a spyder-owner-to-be. Hope it works out that their group can join up with us for some fun!

Mitch, we (SOC) have no control who comes to Paso Robles or when they come, however, the park that we have our show at is limited for space and I do believe another Air cooled club has been asked to join us already, which would further limit parking. We are all car guys and invite everyone to join our runs regardless of what they drive. I suggest you talk directly to Theron, he is our leader
(more than less) and organizer of this event and would know the situation better than the rest of us as to what is happening for this weekend......
Vince Manto & Jim Ignacio, Theron's post mentions Friday caravans to Paso along HWY 101 and a Friday night dinner in Paso. Are most participants going go up Friday? Have you started to organize the meeting points for the Southern contingent? Did the Topanga Ranch Motel work well as a meeting point last year? Should a meet-up be planned there again, or should we work on other options?
Bill, last year worked well and I suggest we do that again for any cars leaving Friday morning......The Topanga Motel is also a good photo op.....We did lunch in Pismo Beach and that was a great stop, so I'm thinking 9:00/9:30 at the motel in Topanga...We followed hiway 1 into Oxnard before picking up the 101 North...
as the time goes on We can organize a few spots along the way to the Topanga location....Will you be joining us this year?
Bill, Vince, et al;

Count me in! Got our room reserved in Paso (Frid, Sat & Sun).

I'm up for the same rendevous location, time and route as last year (Friday morning). That was a very cool leisurely cruise along the coast through Malibu and Oxnard with lunch in Pismo Beach. Also got us into Paso Robles at a decent hour to check into our rooms and meet for dinner.

Looking forward to seeing all our SOC friends!!

Peace - Out!
Hey all...per the posts, I probably won't invite the Miata bunch. If I come, I'd like to find a pack to join up with on the drive. I'll be coming from the west San Fernando Valley; PCH and 101 north all the way I guess...thanks for the kind words again Angela...that WAS a great surprise! And I hope you're right in my being a Spyder owner to be!
Mitch, The Southern cars have met on a number of occasions at the Motel just north of Topanga Canyon blvd on the East side of PCH...."Topanga Ranch Motel"
It's abandon, with plenty of parking and a perfect place to stop.
We also make a stop at Pepperdine college along PCH. Either of these would be best for meeting up with us....We also make a stop in El Segundo along the coast at the Hyperion plant if that is necessary for some folks...I am located in Redondo Beach and a good meeting spot for Orange County cars is the intersection of Hawthorne and Artesia just off the 405, we have used that location before also..
