OK--it's a year since I got my great VS and I STILL don't know what kind of carbs I have. Pitiful--right?

This is a Vintage made in March, 2007 with a 1915 cc engine. I have been told "probably Kadrons" or Solex P-40s and even Webbers, which I'm pretty sure they aren't.

This carb doesn't look like the Kadrons on that Kadron site and also not like a Solex P-40 in a picture I have.

There are no markings at all anywhere on either carb . So I took a pretty good picture and here it is----I would appreciate the knowledge base helping me by identifying the brand and model # of this carb.

Thanks for any help!----Jack

Greg--bingo--right you are. I spoke with Horace at Vintage and they are indeed from Scat; they are Solex P 40s. He is mailing me the manusl that goes with these carbs for jetting , adjusting and
so forth.

Vintage has started using Webber 34's (Horace called them "small Webbers") and said they had trouble obtaining the P 40s so they went with Webbers. Nice trade up I'd say. They ate the extra cost which is the way Vintage operates friom what I know about Kirk's fine company.

I appreciate the responses on here--thanks!---Jack
Jack, those are good carburetors. If you are running a 009 distributor, a Bosch SVDA from CB Performance might give you a smoother off idle throttle response. Do you experience flat spot when pulling away from a stop? The SVDA will smooth out the transition from idle to power transition. If this is something that you are experiencing, I'll go in to more detail.
Will--I just can't say I have a stumble or delay off the line. I feel that if I give it sufficient throttle it goes ok.

I wouldn't mind trying your idea though. What model woulsd work best with my 1915 cc engine or are they all the same? Who is the supplier? Is this an easy swap out for me considering I have promised Larry J. that I would not work on my own car! I have actually broken that promise a few times but I pick my shots and stay within my limits.---Thanks---Jack
Jack, I am going to the SOC Malibu Run and am leaving in about 1 hour. I will give you a email in a few days. Larry may have an opinion on this distributor issue. He has a great level of knowledge. For some information on the carbs and the distributor, check out www.aircooled.net and see tech articles about svda distributors and dual 40 solex carbs. My personal experience is with a stock 1600 engine running a 34PICT 3 carb and a 009 distributor. The flat spot on acceleration was very noticeable. I purchased a Bosch SVDA distributor from CB Performance. It has made the car drive substantially smoother and it also runs cooler. I'll look up part numbers at CB and give you a link later. There are some SVDA distributors marketed that are Chinese made. I went with the Bosch offered by CB Performance. It is Mexican made, original equipment VW Mexico. I'll be in touch!
Hi Mark---No it was a hard copy manual. When I called Scat for info I was told that when these carbs were being sent to Vintage, every one was shillped with a manual in the box. Horace happened ho have one which he graciously offered to mail it to me.

Vintage must have gotten many dozens of these carbs and the same number of manuals so maybe there are more at Vintage. Scat had none of the brochures.

If you can't get one from Vintage let me knos and I'll copy mine for you. Regarda---Jack
