I have a heat gun that I bought at Sears almost 20 years ago. It gets much hotter than a hair dryer. It blows less volume of air but produces much more heat than a hair dryer. Don't stick around excessively long in one place as it will actually soften paint.
I get a couple inches of a corner hot until the edge starts to lift. Peel it up with my fingernail and stick the now-loose corner onto a popsicle stick. You can use anything you want for this part, but popsicle sticks are something that works well as do tongue depressors etc. Roll the decal onto the stick. The glue will hold it on.
Now you have something to pull gently with as you continue to heat the decal. Need to alternate heating the top and underside of the decal while keeping tension with the stick.
After the decal is removed, let the paint cool completely. COMPLETELY!! Then goof-off or any type of adhesive remover will take off the rest.
On large decals, or decals that have been on for a long time, there will be some paint discoloration. You can polish the panel to blend most of that away. Very old decals will probably always leave a ghost image. Don't buff the paint off, give up if it doesn't polish out pretty quickly.
This works on any decal, but is a system that works VERY well on large decals without damaging the paint.
