Well, hate to sell this amazing car but it has to go. 2165 CB Perf motor, 1200 miles or so, Car is perrrrfecto. All who have seen it are in awe! Low windscreen, 4 wheel discs, badges correct etc. This is a rare combo of replica heaven that turns all heads. Looking in the neighborhood of 37K. I am patient and will not give it away! Why wait for a new one when you can pay a few more dollars and enjoy this fantastic machine all summer long! Look at pics under brian yates.

Brian, is your car legally registered in Calif.?? In other words, is it registered with a SB100 exemption or as a Special construction vehicle??? If it has just the Sp. construction tag, what is it's smog status???

Good luck w/ your sale. The 'neighborhood' you're looking into is very exclusive and I doubt if a VW motored Beck Spyder can support it. A beautiful Vintage Spyder w/ turbo Subaru couldn't make that neighborhood either.
In any event your Beck looks really nice I wish you the best of luck.

Yes the car is legally registered in CA as a 1969 Volkswagen and I had no problems with my insurance company for coverage. Just told them it was a replica and did a stated value. Done deal. Yes I realize this neighborhood is exclusive, but a brand new vehicle to this spec would be over the 30k mark if you combine all of the upgrades or additional features and you will wait at least a year just check the forums on this topic. This is a BAD A** car and worth every every penny. I am not against a strong but fair offer.

Brian,
FYI and not trying to sabotage your sale, regardless of the actions of of your insurance company, if it's registered as a 1969 VW, it's not legal according to California's registration rules.
It must be registered as a Special Construction.
Check it out with DMV if you don't believe me and you may want to read this post from Robert Morgester, Deputy Attorney General for the State of California

If the car has a current California registration as a 1969 VW it then depends on how 'picky' the DMV agent is when the new owner transfers title. If no vehicle inspection is called for then I think it's done deal.
Any newly registered vehicles in the fine state of California has to go through the 'Special Construction' process unless it has a valid VIN from a donor chassis and a motor 'close' to the donor chassis original factory specifications.
Granted the DMV has a campaign to 'crack down' on replica cars that were/are inaccurately registered as a Ford Cobra, Porsche Speedster/Spyder, etc.
Bottom line the DMV process is flawed. Perspective replicar buyers need to fully understand the obstacles regarding California registration and more importantly the CARB critera that might be imposed.
I'm sure this will invoke an ongoing discussion mainly due to inconsistant DMV practices. I was looking for a Spyder a little while ago and decided I didn't want to deal w/ DMV BS and bought a nice little Porsche Boxster instead. Not as exciting to drive and 'ticker with' but simple straightforward registration process.

It's not a done deal only a temporary deal. If the current or new owner is stopped and the law enforcement officer is sharp and recognizes that the Spyder does not have a VW vin and it's not a 1969 VW, ignorance of the law is no excuse. Regardless if the DMV registers the vehicle as a VW, it isn't legal (remember, they work off of paperwork where the owner swears under penalty of perjury)and, if caught, the violator is going to have a hard time trying to convince the State and the Judge that they thought the car was a 1969 VW or a 1955 Porsche. Unfortunately, most likely, they will be found guilty of a felony regardless of what DMV did or didn't do.
In closing, the fact that the Deputy Attorney General posted on a Spyder site should tell you that they are aware of the registration violations and are or will be LOOKING for Spyder and Speedster violations along with Cobra's, Hot Rods etc.

This post is not to argue your DMV wisdom. It for selling a vehicle. I realize the inner workings of our govt. agencies are open to interpretation by the official that happens to be working that day! All I'm saying is that I bought the car from MRE (michael reese enterprises) and he took care of the paperwork for me. I had zero problems throughout the year with DMV, or local police. I haven't even mounted my rear plate. Most police cruisers just give a thumbs up as I drive by. You can ask every spyder owner in California how their car is registered and you'll probably get a different response from every one. I'm looking to sell a car not prove my DMV prowess. If you're interested in purchasing the vehicle great. If not argue your case somewhere else!

Brian,
I wasn't trying to argue the point, I was only concerned that you're leaving yourself wide open for mis-representing the legality of the registration.
Good luck selling your car, you may also want to try www.spyderclub, Craigslist and E-bay
