Just to carry on the recent "badging" conversation, if you were the winning bidder what if anything would you do about these VIN plates?
I recognize where the photos and videos were shot - that is Ventura, CA by the beach.

A little overboard, don't ya think?
Sold for $33,250. One of Kirk's builds from 2010.
VS owners rooting for it to go for more. Maybe everybody in California already has one?
Nothing really special he says, looks pretty close to mine. I have driving lights, old style headlight grills, and the more comfy seats, but pretty much the identical color. Still a special car to me.
Thanks, Greg. I had been tempted to respond in the same vein. I suffer from the madness, but also live the dream (since delivery March 7), and "nothing special" is just your everyday traffic-stopping, wave-demanding, definition of the word sports car, especially outside the sunbelt. All the owner has to do is keep track of that list of 17 projects that are waiting to be taken care of.

I get that a lot of folks like to make their replicas as authentic as possible, but that is illegal. In a state like mine, no problem. The DMV pretty much took my word for just about everything for my "1955" Beck Spyder replica. But in a state like NY or CA with rigid vin inspection process you could run into issues with a faux Porsche VIN plate representing a 1974 construction. Granted, the actual VIN archives are spotty before the 80's, but post 1968, the DOT/EPA regulations aren't. I would assume the owner added these post-registration as a special construction, but it seems like it might be an issue for the new owners.
I also can't believe the Porsche lawyers were all over them like white on rice for posting that pic online.

@americanworkmule If your heat is set up typically for VS build, when you turn on your heat, with this little door slid open you get heat primarily in the respective footwell; with it shut you get heat directed primarily to the respective defroster outlet.

Thanks. I don't have a Speedster.
I'm just waiting in a seemingly indeterminate queue for a Spyder..
@americanworkmule I hope the time goes quickly for you. I knew I could never postpone gratification long enough to wait for a bespoke build so I bought a VS speedster lightly used. On the spyder, is heat a typical option? I can see it stretching the driving season even without a top and side curtains, but I could also understand not wanting heater boxes on such a "four-wheeled motorcycle."

the option of heat I'm sure is better left to the one of the veterans to answer. I've tried to research it but I know all the options.
I've gotten to the age of mild reason, so I'm trading my death wish motorcycle to get a four-wheel death trap motorcycle.
I'm with you, Mark. I did two wheels from age 60 to 65 and then finally thought through how small an accident could change the rest of my life.
72 hung up my gear 2 years ago,,might put my 2 bikes up for sale so someone can enjoy them

At 68, I’m still riding motorcycles. I never considered heat beyond adding a BMW accessory plug for my heated gear. Never have. As yet I’ve never driven my Spyder on a day so cold a warm coat, hat, and gloves were all I needed.

Heat can come in handy even in hot places depending on the season; especially for night time driving.

Work-in-progress and I were talking about if heat is an option on the Spyder, ...not if we should have it or not.
I don't know if there is a way to put heating in there.
Not if you want to put anything else in your frunk. I relocated my battery to up front so my tonneau and a pint of brake fluid pretty much fills it up.

You'd be surprised at all the stuff that you can put in the frunk if you set your mind to it...ask me how I know...;-)

@americanworkmule is talking about a Spyder.
Oops, my bad. Thanks for clarifying.

Sorry, I'm out of bounds over here , somehow we got to talking about a spyder...
@wrkinprogress posted:On the spyder, is heat a typical option?
No. My heater is under the dash, and battery is back by the engine. I have a full frunk, such that it is for storage. I also put carbon fiber heater inserts in seat backs and bottoms. It is amazing what you can fit if you plan and put your mind to it.
I sold my Harley and bought my Speedster. Never looked back. Great move for me and my wife was extremely pleased.

Wasn't meant as a slight, these cars are all special.
Just meant nothing exceptional mentioned in the ad, pretty basic car/engine/brakes etc
