I bet the pine needles in the back seat weigh more than all of the metal left in the front clip.
that aint a barn find..........looks to be a lean to find at best.........
Looks like the VIN number is still solid.
I really didn't understand this sale. The removable hard top seems to be the best part of it all (aside from any salvageable tags) and I believe a potential bidder was already trying to sell it off. It takes "patina" to a new level. Only real benefit I see is it makes completed restorations a bit more valuable, I guess. Sheesh.
Makes me love my fiberglass "replica" all the more!
There is a Petrolicious clip from Jay Leno's garage where a Speedster is featured. The before pictures of this car look worse by far than the barn find shown here. It was a mess, more rust and air than steel in many places. The guy said he tried to sell it several years ago only asking 1,000 bucks, and could get nobody to take it. So he put in several years of resto. LOTS of welding new metal. He does not call it a full resto,, however, as he admits having taken some parts from Henry at IM to get it to come together. Well, needless to say, the car today is stunning. I guess its a hybrid replica: some original and some replica, but in the end, all Speedster.
Is it just me, or does it look like that car was dragged to where it is by way of a chain hooked to it through the decklid? I wonder if the buyer has to pay extra for the dirt piling up inside, where the floors used to be!
Anybody ever watch a dead horse get pulled from a barn by a Bobcat?
Which brings up an interesting question. What percent of an original do you have to keep to call it a restoration? I have a bucket of German rust dust I've been saving since 1955. Give me only $75k...sprinkle some of it in your paint...and title a replica the real deal.
