16 Gallon Fuel Tank

Where is the best place to get a 16 gallon fuel tank?? I've read Jim Ward's article #201 on installing the tank and would like to try it. I live in Laguna Niguel, Southern California. .....Fran

Bought mine from JPS - about $60 including the 'adjustment' with a hammer to the filler tube to allow the bonnet to close.

If CIP has them, and they qualify for the free shipping, I would go with them to save some money.

Here, we call them "hoods".

Don't know why......we just do.

Maybe it's a "guy thing", I don't know.

If you're gonna live in Michigan, at least sound like them.......otherwise, they give you that "weird look".....you know, like maybe this guy's a mad dog, or an Englishman........

CIP1 charges an extra $20 packing fee for the tank - but they always have 5-10% off deals. I've not permanently installed mine --- want to shift it maybe to one side or move up/down to avoid cutting the hood.

Umm,speaking of "bonnets" mine does not align correctly with the "wings", especially on the "offside" of the car.

Gordon, did you get the new "hood" installed?

I got mine through John at JPS and he relocated the filler neck for me prior to shipping it out.

Nope.....still working on the hood. Been fighting with the "look" versus adequate headroom versus the existing CMC body mounting locations. Finally decided to take Alan Merklin's off-line suggestion of shortening the bows by 3/4" and I think that'll do it. Should know tonight, as it's warm today and I can glue the material to the windshield header.

Oddly, I didn't know the area was called Nottingham when I bought the house. Not really from England anyway but maybe in a previous life. I live on tea and rainy weather............guess I could survive in Oregon too.

Should I expect to have a problem with interference of the tank nozzle and cap with the hood (bonnet) (trunk lid)...whatever, on my CMC?? Can I use the existing fuel level float,arm and sender??

It does hit the hood on my CMC --- sticks up 1/2-3/4" too high and there is virtually NO neck to cut off on the filler tube. I'm going to try to shift it to one side or move towards or away fron dash (body is not yet mounted to chassis so not certain which will work.

I get my body back from the painters tomorrow.

The first thing I am going to do is see how the fuel tank fits under the bonnet.

Gordon - I'm sorry but I don't think I will ever be sublimated to the degree which you are referring. Besides, I get enough funny looks anyway here in Michigan.

Although I do wish people would stop asking me where in Australia I'm from!
