Yelp .It fit fine. My hood has already been moified. The only thing that had me worried ,was could I get the 6" rim with the 195/65 in and out past it. Yes, there is a Santa Clause

Now I have 2 fresh tanks for sell. One with, and one without the the trunk filler. I can add the filler on the second tank, and before I sell it. also do a touch up on the inner tank sealer kit.
JPS Motorsports is converting a 16 gallon Vw gas tank into to a GT Carerra-style tank with a through the hood fill-up neck, topped by racer quick-fill gas cap (as seen on Spyder replica's). I am certain it will be extremely well executed by John. I can't wait to get my car back on the road after last March's engine fire. John also modified my engine lid into a Carrera-style lid with louvers. Cool world.
Brian ,I am making some Drawing and spec,s for the 6' rim and tire monification I will add the spec,s for the gas tank as well It will go in the Knowledge section as 6' tire In the Boot.
I have some new news , It actually is 7" rim in the boot I came up with more room by trimming the inner lip near the latch. YES room for a 205/65 In a V.S.

So after whacking my 16 gallon tank to fit in my SB I decided to give it a fresh coat of paint. Guess what....when I started wiping down the tank with mineral spirits the paint wiped right off down to the bare metal. The Barzilian paint is about 1 step above shoe polish.

Anyway, just a word of caution, I spent most of the evening wiping off the old paint, primering then painting.

Where did you find and order the 16 gal. tank from? What was the cost and part number? Does it fit without modification other than the inner lining of the hood? My tank has a slight pressure leak with full tank of gas, so this would be a good time to change out and replace the existing 10 +/- gal. tank.

Brian ,take a small round peace of foam rubber just a bit larger than the gas cap, glue the upper side so it can stick to the lid when you try to close it on the tank filler, you will then have a outline for the hole on the lid to mark. Try it a time or to ,to be sure its where you want it. then cut your hole in the inside liner. I used a dremal.
Well,, I bought the kit from Vinage Speedster and the 16 gal. tank does fit . But I am not so sure, that it might be a kit that Kirt bought when Ryan Motors sold out to him .They were reworked CMC,s. I would like to know. If I ever have any serios damage, it might help in the repairs and matching replacement panels.

Its to nice a car to give up on. even if that happened.

I just posted some more pics, One of the tank , three of the heater blowers, and a better one of the front underside of the car with the inner fenders installed .
You can't even see the battery now It on the passeger side under the head light.

To make a long story short, I drove a 356 sc w/a 2000cc and two duce webbers. Still got 36 mpg (power to weight was good) so a 10 gal tank w/the 1gal. reserve via the ol' foot flipper was pretty good range w/all the sonoco gas stations firmly etched in my mind. However w/ a hot one,say 160hp I dout that 36 mpg is reasonable. (I could use some feedback on the mpg thing please)I am planing a tube frame w/custom fuel tank as part of the desighn. I know this does not help you guys with v dub pans, but it's a thought. A creative person could 'sculpt' a nice tank or two to fit in some very obscure places, even on a pan. You can put fuel in the doors if you realy needed the range. Some times I think more aircraft then car with these, after all thay realy are. I used to draw them with little wings. and me flying off in one, but those were collage daze.
John Steele is finishing up my 16 gallon tank. I am going with a Carrera-style through the hood racing quick-fill cap. Of course that means a hole in the trunk lid which I am sure many people would not want. There is a rubber collar that goes around the neck, with a rubber hose connected to divert rain water from entering the trunk and route it to the ground. According to John the install will be a piece of cake, the only effort will be cutting the hole and glassing the inner and outer hood pieces together. All the 550 Spyder replica's do this so it isn't breaking new ground. 16 gallons will be nice.
