You are going to have to split the case to do this....The case and heads must be bored for the oversized cylinders..... While its opened up, you could install another (healthier) cam for improved performance...... The single throat carbs will work with the stock cam and some less radical grinds, but when you start looking at 90+hp, go with Dell or Weber dual choke carbs.... The idea of a carb throat for each cylinder has merit as you effectively are tuning 4 one cylinder engines and can get the idle down low with some pretty wild cam grinds....

Jim, I have a 90% 1915 engine for sale. Add cam, lifters and intake stuff and you're about complete. If you keep your 1600 intact, you could sell it and almost cover the cost of the 1915. One cam lobe and two lifters let go 10,000 miles after rebuild by a respected builder. Wrong oil or bad cam/lifter material could have caused the damage.
