i'd like to sell my bone stock 1641. it came out of my 2004 vintage speedster. it has 6700 miles on it. to my knowlege, there is nothing wrong with it, except for the fuel pump, which i noticed is on it's last legs after i had the engine swapped. i ended up reuising my carbs, fan, distr, etc when i upgraded my engine, so they do not come with the package.

i would be happy to ship it wherever it needs to go, so long as the buyer is willing to pay the shipping charges. i will sell it for the highest reasonable offer. i am not trying to get rich, just get it out of my dad's basement.

please feel free to email me at "dvfrancaccio@yahoo.com" for photographs.

thanks,
george

George,

What are the specs on the engine. Just a stocker with slip in 87's or is there more goin' on with it. How much is left of the engine? The block out to the valve covers with nothing on top, behind or in front, or is there a crank pulley, flywheel, oil cooler, etc.?

$300 for an unknown stripped engine from a stranger is about right, really. If you have a build sheet and proof of the mileage, then possibly more. If you'll warranty the engine, then more again.

Anyone buying an engine from a stranger rather than a distributor is a big gamble, you're gonna take a big hit trying to sell it. Hold onto it and sell it/trade it to a Buddy.
WOW! That's real money! This past year I got two good running stockers for free and a 1641 with a cam for the price of the barrels and pistons. Of course these were used long blocks with stock heads.

I think. in general, VW and even 356 Porsche stuff just doesn't trade for as much here in the North East as it does in other parts of the US. You can find huge bargains at the two major VW shows that take place in Connecticut over the Summer, and, as I mentioned before, we were given an entire building (an operating VW repair shop) FULL of parts, engines, cars, tools, machinery, signs, everything for free! We've been there almost every Saturday since the end of September pulling stuff out.

Folks just don't seem to value VW parts, and even cars, as much around here.

Just saying . . .
