I recently posted a question in the technical forum section and no one has really answered it. That may be because I failed to ask it correctly. Basically, does anyone know about this engine? I have heard positive things and negative things about them and I'm looking for a solid answer on if its a waste of money and time to get this engine. I live in Alaska were over heating desert conditions arent really a factor on the 92mm pistons. I have a dual port 1600cc stock engine with 5,000 miles on it and I want more hp and performance out of it but not so much that I spend close to what it would cost to drop a higher cc engine in. On the other hand still keep my engine reliable as an every day driver. I dont see the point in spending 1,000-1500 bucks on add on performance parts only to fall into the wanting more still not enough category. I can trade out my engine pluss $1400 to a well know vw engine builder in Lake Havasu, AZ and he'll trade me his freshly rebuilt 1835cc engine and install it. To me it sounded like a good deal but then again........I know absolute dookey about vw engines. So do I skip it and hold out for a 1915cc or take the deal....help.

Absolutely Not!
The 1835 and other 92mm based engines (2180) is renowned as the hottest running of all TI engines.. The 92mm cylinder is merely a bored out 90.5mm cylinder as they both have the same OD. The 94mm cylinder has the largest OD and IS thicker than the 92mm.

The other issues with the 92mm bore is the fact that its so thin that the cylinder seating area of the head is reduced and that causes cylinder leaks that occur very prematurely in the engine's life.

I'd take a 94mm bore any day over the 92-
See Meriah? Jake (one of the best in the business) is just confirming what I told you in your original post and....also take into consideration that you'll have to put almost the exact same add-ons to the 1835 cc as to the 1600 cc to make it perform right. The 92 mm cylinders used on 1835's are just too thin to give you an acceptable lifespan and reliability. Better get 90.5 mm cylinders (that fit the same boring hole as the 92 mm's) and you'll be covered in that department with a total displacement of 1776 cc.
