I can picture Carey cringing over thought that it might have been a Beck at one time. I like the T3 mid-engine mounting. Looks like Cory's sawzall paid it a visit!
The steering box and wheel mounted in the middle of the beam along with the glassed over hood and door areas were initially suggesting this was maybe going to be a drag car. Then is saw the motor mounted midship- autocross or roadracer?
PS- I don't know who made them, but there are a few lightweight (no doors or hood) bodies around like that. Over the years a couple of drag racing speedsters have graced the pages of Hot VW's. I think Lloyd Mosher may have been involved in getting them made; he had the first one, iIrc. I don't remember those bodies being flared in the front, though. Al
PPSS- That paint scheme looks familiar....
ALB:
The paint scheme has churned up something in my memory as well, but I can't get a hold on it. You are right, it signals dragster/dragster project.
This would be a real test of "Glassing Skills"..... Looks like it was rear ended, front ended, and pranged at various angles..... The previous glass work looks like a crude hand lay up in places....
I doubt seriously if the Beck folks had any part of a single component on that thing.
Hmm, good start for a Suby motor/trans combo I think. Very rough! Looks like you could install a center mounted 911 rack and column with the double u-joint steering shaft. Cable shifter to Suby trans with 2wd mod. Add turbo and WHEEEEEE that thing would go, and maybe handle too!
I don't think that body was ever meant to be (or would ever survive) on the street. As I said earlier, it's for a race car; no doors, front hood or inner structure of any kind and probably pretty thin. Definitely not any of the mainstream Speedster manufacturer's efforts. If you want to build a VW drag car without the airstream penalty of a beetle shell, this would be a good way to go.
This is a thin wall pop up over thr frame body for a drag VW, like a funny car thingy.
I wouldn't touch that thing with a twenty-foot pole.
Nope. Not even to see if it was alive.
oh so sweet!! gr8t street car with a little work, chassie needs some work as does body. it does look kinda familur.( a little work to some is a lotta work to others)
Hi Guys
This looks like it could be one of the Mosher bodies as it looks very similar to the one i have
