I have a 1956- 1959 356 Porsche Speedster Replica car was built by Automobili Intermeccanica in Santa Ana Ca. in 1978 the KS title says it is a 1979 ASVE which means assembled vehicle that meets criteria. Which is the equivilant to California’s SPCN.  SPCN is what you MUST BY LAW register one of these cars as, in California. It means specialty constructed vehicle and that will be the make on the title. Not Porsche, not VW. SPCN. I believe they will ignore the existing VIN, instead giving you the CA Blue VIN. The year will be whatever the year was on the day you registered it. Have a CMC Speedster built in 1987 on a 1968 VW pan? Register it tomorrow in California and it's now a 2014 SPCN. Have an Intermeccanica built in 2008 on a tube chassis? Register it tomorrow in California and it's now a 2014 SPCN. A SPCN has a benefit - SB100 is the SPCN Emissions Control, and is optional. The SB100 program allows 500 people a year to sign up a vehicle. This program gives you a lifetime pass from ever having to get the vehicle smogged. The SB100 is attached to the car, not the owner, and transfers with the title in the event of a sale. (Having an SB100 can add significant value to a buyer in California.) Automobili Intermeccanica speedsters were made on a VW chassis.  They made 608 of them Serial #s 0-246 were the first series before retooling. Serial #s 247-608 were the second series which can be identified by an Aluminum foil ID plate on the driver’s side door jam. This car does need alittle TLC but it does run and drive.  You could put say $5,000 more in the car say $2,500 for a paint job and exterior and $2,500 interior which I don’t know what possibly would cost that much abd have at the end a car worth at least 25000 plus. The kit alone from Vintage cost almost $14,000 and that’s without the donor vehicle pan and chasis and motor. So after all this my asking price is $10,000 not $7500 not $12,000 but $10,000. I will be happy to take any specific pics or answer any question you have.  You can also email me at allst8qb@gmail.com Thank you for enduring my rambling but just trying to cover any concerns you might have
