I want to get as close to the 165/80x15" tire size on my Speedster. Current Michelin XZX are 20+ years old so afraid to drive on them. Getting to where I need to replace them. I have standard/classic CMC body with 2L Porsche 4 lug Fuchs alloys. With current tires I have a finger space on driver's side and a little more on passenger's (seems to be the FF/CMC mold was off a little as this is common). I did remove some of the inner fiberglass wheel lip - just in case. It actually look like kit car fiberglass with it removed. Fronts aren't a problem - have disc brakes with 2 adjuster beam and a 3/8" wheel spacer on either side.

So is anyone running 195/65x15" tires? Any rubbing at all? Did you try them and have issues? Costco seemed to have dropped their BFG TA Traction tires (all BFG for that matter). They now carry Bridgestone along with Michelins - so will go with Bridgestone. Car not yet running so unable to have one mounted and drive around the block to test it out. I know I'd be safe with 185/65x15 but would prefer the "legs" of a larger tire.

Wolfgang, I have the same problem as you. My IM's body is slightly to one side. I can fit a 185/65, but a 196/65 is a little to wide on one rear corner.
A lot depends on your wheel offset. It would be easier to fit a 195mm if your wheels had a 45+mm offset. A wheel with a 40mm offset makes it harder to clear the outer body.
I had 195/55 15's on my IM with 7 in rims. In agressive cornering they rubbed ever slightly on one of the little bolts that hold that belt line trim on but that's it.

I've now switched to 911 fuchs, 6 x 15 I think. I had a machine shop take about 3/16 of an inch off the backside of these rims and I've got new 195/55 TA's mounted on them. Right now the car is still largely apart but I do have one of the Fuchs mounted on the rear and one of the old wheels on the other side. Its clear that there is more clearance with the shaved Fuch than the other side. I'll also be grinding down that pesky stud that rubbed before. If need be, I may also add a little bit if negative camber in the rear (is that right, negative meaning the top of the wheels angled in??). I've seen this on some SOC member's photos. It wouldn't take much at all to get the clearance.

My local tire shop offered to mount one tire on a wheel and then let me take it home to check fitment...might ask?
