Definitely need pictures. It'll certainly be lower than a numbers matching original, but It's still likely higher than a replica in $$ value, but not necessarily in fun value.

Hey MarkV from what I remember of the originals most 57's put out about 90 HP. So I am guessing that the engine is not original too. Still without rust could be something special, but if you're looking for a driver I'd go the replica route.. and not worry about anything, just gas and oil...

A '57 356 had two engine options...Normal at about 60hp, and Super at about 75hp.
The 912 engine, just shy of 100hp was essentially a bumped-up Super90 (discontinued along with the 356C in '65)
The question really is - do you have $100,000 to spend, or do you have $15,000 to spend for a driver quality toy?
A speedster, even with an engine mis-match, in drive-able form, documentable miles (which is highly suspect), and minimal rust probably starts at $75,000 to $80,000 pretty easily. I've seen "dry" driver quality cars go for 100K and I've seen inoperable absolute fright pigs go for 30 to 40K.
For a drivers toy, the replica is a bargain. Very decent examples change hands at 15 to 20K. Very nice ones for 25 to 35K all day long. This is aside from Intermechanicca, whom I considered to be a distinct (and extraordinary) outlier.
