I am the third owner of the Speedster which was built by Vintage Speedsters in 2002. All 3 owners are Irish. The O'Sullivan Brothers were the first owners and Delaney is the 3rd and current owner. This beauty has always been in San Diego, CA and has always been garaged, never had a whiff of cigarette smoke, no kids or pets, and never driven in the rain or on wet streets.
It has 40,058 miles (64467 km) since it was built. The engine was replaced in 2009 and it currently has 5,562 miles on the new engine. The wheels and tires were replaced in 2009 with 4 lug chrome rims and 155 SR 15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.
This Speedster is built on a 1969 VW pan and is registered in California as a 1969 VW, and requires no smog certification. There are personalized "LIL 365" license plates on the vehicle. These plates are period correct right down to the 1957 sticker. I have the official white CA plates that are the same. There is a quick one bolt front license bracket in case you encounter an ornery police officer.
The engine is a 1835cc VW with dual Empi HPMX 40mm carbs. It was built by JCS Volks Machine. It has an electronic ignition system, and big valve .041 heads. According to the JCS brochure it should produce 85 HP. I don't know what CAM it has.
An A-1 Sidewinder exhaust with a Magna flow muffler was installed November 2010 along with a new clutch disc and seal and battery. The engine is well sorted out as I have had it rejetted a few times and think we are in the right place now. Runs extremely well and very strong.
She has Royal Blue color Allante vinyl seats, door panels and dash trim. It's hard to tell that it's not leather.
