Hi, need some advice on where to purchase interior parts for my Speedster. I have a 58 CMC Speedster C that my wife and I have owned since 1996. Its time for new exterior paint and new interior. I would like to remove the old white faced cockpit gauges, fill in the holes in the dash  and start over with period correct VDO gauges. I have been looking at Vintage Speedsters website and they appear to have everything I need. VDO 3 gauge set, complete interior w/carpets, banjo steering wheel etc. Anyone in the Speedster community know of the quality of their replacement interior kit and parts.  My goal is to refurbish the car to look like a 1958 rather than a 90's kit. What do you think of red interior with oatmeal carpets over silver body paint. I am finding that there are not many sources for replica Speedster interior kits, and here in Western New York, no custom upholstery shops. Thanks

If you're filling in the dash holes and adding new gauges consider buying a set from Carey Hines at Special Edition. He has new high quality replica gauges available wherein the speedometer is GPS based not cable driven. It is supposed to be very accurate. More expensive but accurate.

Parts can also be purchased from:

If you were doing a red/red combo it would look great, but with a silver ext./red int. and oatmeal colored carpets you'd be introducing a new color (tan or light brown) into the mix. Browns don't generally go with greys/silvers so if I was planning this from scratch I'd go with more of a medium/darker grey or charcoal colored carpet.

We'll need to see pics when it's done... Al

Agree on getting VDO gauges from SE/Beck - get sending units too.  You don't want the troublesome older Chinese replica gauges.  The GPS sender is tell-tale if the new ones - old had cable drive speedo.  I got Haartz cloth full tonneau, top and header bow from VS.  Their interiors will fit and are nice - a little costly but upholstery work is expensive. I'd rate them at 80/85%.

Beck and IM use those guages and they are the best ... I should say, so far,  in the reproduction game. I am also waiting for a KPH speedo from VDO supposedly they will do it but I am at the 24 month wait and still waiting.  If anyone is wanting a KPH speedometer in this new guage please send a request to VDO we need them to know that there are people who want to BUY THEM.   Thanks in advance.... Ray

I think what gets me the most in this day and age of technology is the lack of vision of companies, even VDO.  Think of it,  most of the analog parts are limited to the guage face and the gearing ratio for the needle span of either MPH or KPH.  Some sort of universality could be built in their gauges so that both measuring systems could be accomodated.  All new GPS guages are PULSE counters so counting pulses to reach a Km or a Mile is not very difficult.  You know,  the rest of the world is in Kilometers... I'm just saying..
