Thanks to everyone who’s given encouragement on the “newbie’s” thread.

I figure I’d try and document the build on a thread to show what this rescue has entailed so far.

I found this sitting on some private land near me in Los Angeles. Beneath some oak trees. The daughter of the original owner was clearing out his house after he passed away. UnFortunately I got to the clean out a day too late and the body that the gentleman had for it was already taken.

The pan has been shortened to the standard sportster length and has been welded quite professionally. I’ve crawled all over and under the pan looking for rust but there’s none to be found. It appears that the body had been stored on top of it covered by a tarp. But 30 years of rats nest was covering the whole thing. 4” in some places. B487CDE0-21D8-4175-A70B-D60CC21EAAAC

the wheels are a bit janky and the tires BARELY made it home on the tow dolly

Here’s video when I discovered it turned over: https://youtube.com/shorts/p3z-nC1MdtM?feature=share

and here’s one of the state of the tires:

and finally tonight a quick vid of the starter cranking it over for the first time in 30+ years!

I’ll try to post as I make progress. I found a set of tires this week and have installed them- it makes it much easier to move around!

This is the wheel weights I found on just one of the rims… pretty incredible haha!

Nice to know someone is close to me. Yes, we should get together sometime.  There's another guy down the street like a half a block with a black speedster he drives to work every day. I met him a couple weeks ago by following him home.  I told him about SOC but don't know if he looked it up.  When my Spyder is finished I will be asking local  Speedster "wing nuts" if they would like to do a cruise up Angeles Crest to Mt Wilson and continue clear over to Mt Baldy Village for lunch and then home.  Nine14nut....when you feel the need, send me a Private Message (PM).  I'm somewhat skilled in the ways of these little critters we drive.............Bruce
