Harry is being great to work with on this sale... My Dad passed away a few weeks ago and I'm working my way through the estate process so it may take a few weeks to wrap everything up and take final possession. Thanks for being so flexible Harry! As some of you know from prior posts, this has been a dream for several years so I can hang in there a little longer before fully realized.

Big question now is whether to fly in and drive home or ship it down. Bend Oregon to Dallas Texas (1885 miles) may be a bit more of a "maiden" journey then I'm ready for without really knowing the car. I trust she can make it, but not sure about my big old butt. So do I man up to the mid-summer heat or transport? :)
Chuck,if you have the time, pick up your car and drive to the IM summer gathering in July. You will have a wonderful time and get to know some fine folks! Then drive down the Pacific coast to San Diego. You can get the valves adjusted and the oil changed here at my house before heading east across the country. The IM summer get together is an experience not to be missed, and the coast drive is what these cars were born to do. Plus there are SOC members all along the way to help out in times of trouble! Do it!
I'm a big fan of Intermeccanica but I have to make one thing clear.

Any car that is maintained can make a long drive. Any car that is not maintained may not make it, even if it is an IM. Before you decide to drive any distance, make sure that the car is ready for it. If the car is tuned, lubed you have a much better chance of making it.

I've driven my IM (now John's IM) to Canada from Sacramento and back 5-6 times and to the Los Angeles area probably 25-30 times. Even though it is an IM, I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't maintained the car.

What ever you do, Chuck, enjoy the hell out of the car! And welcome to the group!
Dale, how right you are. Henry does build a masterpiece but it needs maintenance like any other Speedster. I looked at a 5 year old IM in 2007 that was left outside for a year. It needed some attention as they all do.

However, I feel that my Spyder would easily make the trek across the country with no more than a valve adjustment and an oil change. I am sure I would get more wear and tear on me than the car! All because I built it and maintain it. Any well-maintained car would be able to make long trips.
Pussys. Wear a hat. Chele and I have driven several times on I-5 thru Red Bluff / Redding when the temperature was 110 deg F +. We only put the top up once when we got stopped because of an accident. We pulled to the shoulder, put the top up, and got back into line at the same spot we left. Of course we were going down a slight slope so I turned off the engine and let'er coast.
Ok, final decision is to ship it... I talked to the engine builder at CB Performance yesterday and since new engine only has 1200 miles, he recommended against a 2000 mile marathon run until I had finished the break-in period. Just finalizing the deal and hope to ship next week. Thanks for all the great advice! I'll be on the road in no time.
Chuck - Congrats on the new wheels. Please consider signing up for the Fall Run in the Smokies (look in Events folder). Last I checked, Jack Crosby was planning to go and your trek to North Carolina would take you very near his home town of Hot Springs. I'll be driving up from southern Louisiana and could link up with both of you somewhere around Memphis. We could get a 3-speedster caravan going all the way to NC.
