I am listing my Vintage Speedster Babe Magnet up for sale. Built on a 1968 chassis, 1776 engine, dual carbs, electronic ignition, freeway flyer trans, chrome wheels, convertible top,  Leather seats, tonneau cover, side curtains, CD stereo, Wood Nardi steering wheel, coco mats, luggage rack. 6,500 smiles.

It has a couple tiny nicks in the paint from previous owner, and it will drip 2 drops of oil after a cruise. I'm pretty sure it is just marking it's territory.  Currently the fuel gauge is finicky. Probably needs a new fuel gauge sender. Everything else works as it should.

The speedster runs strong, dependable and shifts smoothly.

Pre-summer sale price is $20,000. Not negotiable.

I can assist if you wish to have it shipped. Located in Costa Mesa, CA 92627

The speedster was built in 2002 and shipped to New Mexico. I purchased it with 5,000 miles on it and added I another 1500 miles here in California.

The seats, door panels and arm rests are leather. The rear seat pad is vinyl but matches perfectly.

The front trunk  and the underside of the bonnet are carpeted.

The top, side curtains, full tonneau, and quarter tonneau are all black stafast fabric and in excellent condition.

The chrome wheels and hubcaps shine like new.

The floor pan does not have any rust or damage.

At 20k that car should be sold by now.

@Kevin - Bay Area - lots of room left on this one for improvements (wide 5's...) and all the hard work is done (paint, body, motor).

A complete new vinyl interior from Vintage Speedsters is $2,100 if the color on this isn't to your liking. You might be able to get it done at a local upholstery place for less. Or buy all new and sell the used ones.

Gentlemen, the man is posting a car for sale. You're all slipping up here. Get with the program! Somebody needs to say at least say something snide about something. At a minimum, somebody needs to make a "your price is out of line" comment.

Allow me.

It's too cheap. You're bringing the market down, Fisher. You need to be about $5K higher.

Seriously, though-- good luck with the sale. Somebody's going to get a nice car at a discount.

1776 cc engine Approx. 85 HP - from VS build sheet

Camshaft should be and sounds like stock for 1600 DP

Heads should be stock for a 1600 DP as well.

It also has Front Disc Brakes

With the info you've provided, @-fisher, the camshaft in that engine will definitely not be stock VW. A 1776 engine making 80-85 hp will have a 280ish duration (advertised duration; an Engle W110 or something very similar) cam. You are right about the heads; they are probably stock 1600 dual port. How high did the engine rev with power?

Yeah.

A quick heads up on Vintage Speedster 1176-1915s: for at least some of the history, the engines were stock except for opening up the case and heads for a piston and cylinder set. Jim Ward refered (lovingly) to these engines as "Mexicrates". That's why Kads are an option-- if you don't pay for them, you get a stock one barrel carburetor. Kirk has used various engine builders over the years, and has had better success with some than others.

Perhaps this engine had a better cam, perhaps not. Vintage isn't generally building engines in this class for guys like you or me, Al. The 85 hp is apocryphal, and not meant to be taken to a dyno (unless it is one using Orange County Correction Factor).

The car was still a great deal.

Yeah, you could be right, Stan. I tend to forget the "optimistic" copy that some companies use, and based my spiel off the "85hp" part. No way you're gonna hit that with a stock cam with 1776 (or 1915, for that matter) cc's. Thanks for the history lesson. Al

PS- Can I ask how the house is coming, or is that not a good subject at the moment? Has life settled down?
