What IS it with all the "I'm buying/selling/listing for a friend/brother-in-law/uncle/step-grandma of mine" stuff on ebay and elsewhere? They can't read or write themselves? Do they really think people are that stupid? Uh, yeah, Uh, I never misrepresented the article for sale... it was my step-buddy who I was listing it for... yeah, him.

I'd just let it slide.

BTW- Are you feeling well? You know giving away your prized possessions is a sign of suicidal tendencies. Feeling depressed is nothing to be ashamed of you know, and we're all here to help. Should we be worried about you? Is there something you'd like to share with the group, Ron? We're all here for you. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath, and go to that "safe place" in your mind.
Definitely ignore it; it's the same old story of "the associate". If you agree to a price he'll end up telling you that he'll be sending you a check for more than the agreed price so that after cashing it you give the remainder to "the associate or pick up agent" along with the car. To sum it up, the check is fraudulent but the bank will cash it at first glance and then get back the funds from you long after the car, "the associate" and the scammer are all but vanished. Note how these scammers have shakey skills in English; sometimes they use European spelling such as "cheque".....
Stan, I'm feeling fine, and I'm going to feel a whole lot better in about one month, when I say good-bye to my 32 little sweethearts for the summer(I hate to admit it, but I'll miss the little turkeys).
Riardo, Canadians (me) also use the spelling 'cheque'. Then there's gauge, colour, favourite.....
Ron
I've seen this scam attempted on myself as well, one of the MO's is to get you to give your account info with #s so they can wire the money into your account. but of course they want that acct # to wire money out of your account. Be very careful, the internet offers more oppertunity for the scumbags as well as those of us with more honerable intentions. my 2 cents.....
No WRX for me. I've been spending some time on Subaru WRX forums, and there seems to be a lot of unhappy WRX owners with failed transmissions. This is happening on 02, 03 and even 04 models. Granted, some of those guys drove their cars hard, but the failure rate is still very high (not so much if, but when). Furthermore, many dealers are charging the owners for all/part repair costs. They're saying that the owners abused their cars.
The new owner is picking the IM up tomorrow, and wouldn't you know it, the car is acting up on me. The car has been running very well, with lots of power, but 'pops' at idle and when I decelerate. I'm fairly sure that it's not an exhaust leak. The backfiring seems to be increasing and the car seems to be down on power (slightly).
Ron
Well, shes gone.....took her for one last, short blast on the freeway. The weather here is great today, so I put the top down and drove her from school to the insurance agency, to sign her over to the new owners. I almost didn't go through with the deal. I had a sleepless night thinking about this car. Anyone out there know what I'm talking about?
She ran like a dream today.
I'm going to hang around for a while (on this site). I feel like a guy who's given up bowling, sold his ball (no comments Ron or Bob)and bowling shoes, but still hangs around the bowling alley.
Can I last a year without a convertible? I've thought of a 2000 or 2001 Miata (you know, full leather, air, power everything, hard top etc, etc) but Miatas just don't 'move' me like my IM did. And besides, who notices a Miata? A used Honda S2000...maybe.
Parked my car and waited for the new buyers. I can't believe the number of people that slowed down (real slow) to take a look at my beautiful IM (top down).
This was a big decision for me and I'll probably be bummed out for a while. My wife says that if I go look at the 911 powered IM that Henry will have for sale she will kill me!!!
Ron
Hey Ron,
Weren't you the same guy that once said:

George selling his speedster has got me athinkin...How long have the rest of you out there owned your speedster. I've owned my 84 IM for 3 1/2 years. If I sell this car, the 'death til we part' will be wife induced!
Ron

Now she is going to kill you for looking at a new one?

Women!

Hope to see you "bowling" real soon!

Rob

PS - I recommend owning a 911 powered IM and sleeping with one eye open. It's worth the risk :-)
Vince, I'm not sure that I buy the Miata is a "girls car" thing. Lots of guys in my community drive them. I've also heard that about Fieros and that Jeep Wranglers are kids cars. My boss had a Fiero and I sure would have hated to have him think that I thought his car was a girls car; He was the guy who wrote my reviews. I had a 1993 Jeep Wrangler, and as a matter of fact also a 1997 Wrangler that my daughter drove. Come to think of it, since I'm a big kid anyway, maybe there is something to the Jeep thing ;-)
John,
A Jeep would not have been on my list of "girl" cars,
although one of my girls did want one for a long time....
When you sold yours, did a girl buy it.......

I have 2 friends with Miata's....both girls, excuse me,(women)....
I only mention this because I read about some of the guys on this site
who really dig Miata's, and I just don't get it....They are already driving one the best little sports car ever made.. (argueably)( for the price)
When I see Z3 and Z4 Beemers, who is driving them....Women
When I see CLK convertible Mercedes, same thing...
I was actually thinking of giving my speedster to my wife (lease on her Jeep is almost up) and getting either an outlaw 356 coupe
or an old 911...for myself, But I don't need the repair bills with either. And she won't drive a stick on a regular basis....
I actually asked her if she wanted a Miata...She wants an SL500.....
of course...

Steven, thanks, it was cool looking and I had fun with it. I sold the '97 model a few months afterwards, but it was not in nearly as good condition as the '93. It had over 50K miles on it and it was showing the wear and tear of 3 1/2 years of mostly being parked outside in Denver. I managed to clean it up, put a couple of 'C' notes into repairs and sold it to a woman car nut, one not afraid to tear into just about any project by herself, or so she claimed.

Vince, the '93 was sold to a man who bought it for his son for a high school graduation present. There was a bidding war and it sold for more than what AutoTrader.com said it was worth. It was one nice Jeep and I was sorry to let it go. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't, but I was trying to finance my Speedster urge.

I try to avoid generalizing on who drives what, but you are right that certain trends do become apparent. I would just hate to call a car a "girls car" and then find out that one of my big strapping Speedster bros has one in his garage. This would apply to anyone except RonO, who I would blast without mercy. Just kidding RonO;-)
John H.
Ron,
Not really, I'd drive whatever I like, boy car or girl car,
its almost impossible to insult me,
but how do you go from a speedster to a miata....
granted, these speedsters do have some deficiencies, and I for
one do not believe they make good daily drivers, which a Miata
would be good for, in fact, I can't imagine owning a Miata for anything else except a daily driver for economy....I guess..
I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just didn't
understand the Miata thing, I don't see much styling there....
But occasionally I read about one of the guys on this site
wanting one.
Besides you know how I like to stir up trouble....
So here is my prediction... If you sell your Speedster and then buy a convertible of another type (miata, s2000, etc.) you will soon hear yourself saying things like "... I used to own a 356 replica..." or "... before I bought this car I had a speedster...". Think about it.
Brother Ron
We see a lot of women driving cars these days and I think that the marketing execs know that. They ARE designing and making cars that appeal to women because more and more women are the ones influencing the sales.

So, if you want a guy's car you have to buy a "classic"...a car built before the marketing folks realized that its the women who wear the pants and buy the cars. The Speedster fits that but I think it crosses over and also appeals to women...

Ron, pick up a nice Alfa rag top. You get the convertible itch sratched and the car/make has some real history...some soul. Bet it'd be about the same price as a used Miata...maybe better.

Brian
David, I sold my car on the Autotrader, (for our province). Samba and Kitcar were a waste of time for me. The car is still showing on Kitcar, as I can't find their email address to cancel the ad.
Brian, it's funny you should mention an Alfa...as I've had this urge to buy an older convert, like an alfa and race it. I do have a VERY BIG soft spot for Morgans and Lotus Super 7s, and, of course, they make great daily drivers!

Ron
Many people have more money that brains. I'm proud to say that I don't have much of either.
