Yeah, Alfa's are fine if you only drive them (sparingly) in the exact same weather that you last tuned them up in (including valve adjustment). Even a little climate change from that last "ideal" throws them for a loop and they run sucky. And don't even get me started on their electrical systems - at least with Lucas you EXPECT them to go dead or glitchy occasionally. With Alfa's they take a nap AND make smoke (sometimes at the same time)! And the exhaust note - sort of like a Healey with a rap.

Granted, they ARE sexy to look at, but so is Anna Nicole (now) until she opens her mouth and says something.

Just read the middle paragraph of your post - I know you had your tongue firmly planted in your cheek, but Pleeeez.....Morgan's and Super 7's as daily drivers?!?!?!?!? And you grumped about the three weeks a year you get to drive you're (sadly departed) Speedster???

If you really want the performance, don't care about the weather or creature comforts and want it to go like the hammers of hell AND out handle ANYTHING in your extended neighborhood, forget about those Italian girly-cars and get a Caterham (and a pair of good ear plugs).

Gordon, I wasn't serious about a Morgan or Super Seven being a daily driver. I mentioned them only because I recently went to a 'historic' racing series at our local race track, and watched the Morgans, supers, etc., racing around the track. Just me dreaming about owning one of these beauties and vintage racing. I'm also looking at buying a racing cart and racing it at our local cart track ....now there is something I could (maybe) afford.

I've been driving my 3.2 ltr IM for a few months now. I believe you had seen the car at Henry's during construction. It's an absolute blast! Handels as well or better than the 911/turbos Ive owned in the past and more little boys stop dead on their bikes to stare and yell "nice car!" than ever before.

God bless you with what ever you replace yours with... Can't imagine having to make a choice like that right now.

The trouble with selling my IM is that there is nothing in it's price range that I really want. What I do want costs a lot more (and I'm talking 'used' here). My wife says that I have to save up the difference. I asked her if she would get a part-time job to help out in the saving....she didn't think that was funny.

If you want a oldie but a goody (kinda) check out the porsche 914s. I found the biggest thrill is in the pursuit of a car. Tracking down a classic in super clean condition and at a good price is always fun. It's kind of like hunting without all the blood.

I use to own a 71 914. Sorry, I ever sold it. It had it's problems but parts were cheap, and it was pretty easy to work on.
My wife has a TT roadster. Fun car, great interior, very well built.

Its a front-wheel drive 150 bhp (1.8T) variant, so its not their fastest model by any means, but that engine loves to rev.

You know its a convertible when you drive it though - you can tell the body is flexing and its no where near as rigid as my boxster was.

Its a fantastic alternative to the speedster for longer journeys or days when the weather is iffy though. Electric roof, heated seats, air bags, ABS, stability control, ...

... but they're two-a-penny over here and no-one stares at them like a speedster :))
