We had a 45 degree day in Michigan yesterday. I openned the garage and fired up the Spyder. What a cammed up little beast! I enjoyed just sitting their listening to the motor. I let her warm up and then took her through my subdivsion. I didn't get crazy, but I sure could feel the power strapped to my back. What an amazing little vehicle. I love the acceleration off the line. I don't think the car got warmed up all the way. My temp gauge didn't move, unless it's not working. I don't think that is the case. Do these cars get hot easy? Does anyone run manuel gauges under the dash?

It's going to be 50 degress today!!! Another run through the sub!! Peoples jaws really do drop.

I LOVE MY SPYDER!

That "other" silver car in your garage is probably fun to drive too!!!

Many people run auxillary gauges. I'm going to install a head temp, oil temp and an oil pressure gauge under my dash. I just don't trust those repo. gauges, plus, none of them really tell anything.

I live in Ontario California, this morning, it was 26 degrees on my patio, days have been warming up to 60 degrees. This is a "cold" spell for my part of the country. During summer months, it's not unusual to have 100 degree days. Yesterday, I drove to Corona, (approx. 18 miles on the freeway) The gauge moved only 2 needle widths with air temp hovering around 55 to 60 degrees.

During the summer months, my car seems to run fine and the needle on the temp gauge moves only to the 1/4 position, Max.

That's exactly why I want to install ""real"" gauges.... I don't have the foggiest clue what a needle width equals. Besides that, head temp. is equally as important. The oil pressure light in the stock gauges comes on at about 4 to 6 psi, by then, it's probably too late.
I agree with you Larry. When I first drove the car, when it was delivered, I was worrying that I over revved it by what the tach was telling me. Instead of trusting my ears, I thought the tach, jumping all over the place, was accurate.

When you get on this car the tach doesn't seem right. Also, the 2165cc motor is making all its power around 55k to 6k; my car has only a 6k tach. Beck probably doesn't want customers over revving, but you could use an 8k tach. I'm for sure putting an oil pressure and temp gauge under the dash Are these gauges original to a Spyder? I believe they are.

I have a book titled Porsche Spyders by Ludvigsen Library Series. In the book is a photo of a 550 race car. The speedo has been removed leaving the tach and combination gas/temp gauge. Installed to the left of the Instrument cluster and mounted in the dash is an Oil pressure gauge, but it was not factory original, apparently someone cut a hole in the dash for a 2" gauge.

All other photo's do not show auxillary gauges. By the way, the original cars had the cluster arranged with the speedo on the left, the tach in the middle and the combo gauge on the right side.
Tony, Did Beck install the "new" exhaust system on your car? Their cars came with a cheesy glass pack muffler set up that usually doesn't last any more than 2 years. Greg and Dean were talking about offering this exhaust system on all of their new cars as an option.

The system is made by Vintage Spyders. A few months back I had Greg at Vintage install the new system and it greatly improved the visual effect, noise and power.

These are photos I posted showing the new exhaust system...
Tony, go the the link I provided, it tells you everything about installation. Also, I'd suggest you contact Greg for the price.

Vintage Spyder, 714 538-6550 talk to Greg Leach

or, go to the other web site I provided and find him under the Vendor forum and send him an e-mail.

This system is made exclusively for the Beck, He has another system designed for his cars.
