So far researching this site has been a great help. I do have some questions that I am sure have been asked before though.

I am 24 years old an will be getting a company car, er... mini-van soon. And would love to have a Speedster for a weekend get-away car. Being young and not owning my own home I feel it would be difficult to get insurance and other payments at a reasonable level. So I have thought about bringing my Dad into the picture. I need some help to 'soften the blow' in asking him. He is a very conservative guy and I do not think he will go for this right off of the bat.

He is going to need to know stuff like cost of regular maintenance, tune-up cost every 3,000 miles (we do not have the ability to do this on our own). Fuel mileage etc. etc.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

All those questions you posted are easy to answer; basically your Speedster will be a disguised VW Bug. Gas mileage varies with the type of engine you choose but on the average will be as good or better than a Bug due to the reduced weight of the fiberglass body. Maintenance costs are very reasonable due to the reasonable cost of the parts and the ease of doing it on your own (be sure to get a VW Service Manual).
Joe, if I read your request correctly, you are not planning to do your own maintenance work. That's fine, but ask around and find out if there is a good air cooled VW mechanic in your neck of the woods, wherever that may be. You can pretty much forget VW dealers unless you find one that has a knowledegable old timer or enthusiast on staff and no company policy against servicing vintage VW cars. Service costs should be fairly reasonable, since typical 3,000 mile service is not that involved. Just make certain that you find someone who knows what they're doing.

Joe,
Trying to find a speedster owner who is willing to finance you will
be impossible...A used speedster will run 13K for a nice one
which you will have to pay cash for...So have your financing set
before you buy...Thats where "good old Dad" comes in...
Tell the "old man" you'll let him borrow it once and a while......
if he co-signs on a loan..
GOOD LUCK..........
