Authentic replica of a 1961 Porsche 356 Roadster. Built on a tubular steel frame and reinforced fiberglass body in the Intermeccanica factory in Canada, 1600 cc VW air cooled engine, leather interior, Blaupunkt high end sound system. Has been garaged and driven only locally in good weather less than 5,000 miles. One owner - purchased new for over $28,000
So, what do you guys think about this car? Any concerns? I must confess, I too like the idea of the roll up windows and the better field of view with the roadster versus the speedster. It seems to me that that the Intermeccanica's are very well made. What is a newby to do?!!! By the way, a few years ago, at a local garage sale, I bought a 73.5 911s with cis for 1,000.00 that the daughter who was settling her father's estate was not sure if it ran or not. It was literally, the dusty porsche in a barn, in this case, a sea crate container in a winery. The paint cleaned up like new, tires were new, 92 code, and had not seen any miles or sun. I drained tank, blew out fuel lines, bought new batteries, squirted mystery oil in each cylinder, car cranked two or three times, fired, and ran better and better with each passing day and Techron gas. I sold the car after 2 months for 12,000.00. I put in about 600.00 in miscellaneous repairs. when I took the car out to burn off the mystery oil, I was promptly pulled over by a local CHP who could not believe my good luck, he let me off with a warning to regester the car immediately. I get lucky sometimes . . .I do miss my '67 bug from my college days, this roadster might work, hell yes!
A newer IM for a decent price is the way to go. Intermeccanica is the absolute best 356 replica on the market, and the most expensive. If you can buy a new new model for a fair price then go for it. The only problem I see with this car (other than the fact that I haven't seen it) is the near stock 1600 cc motor. A 2110 would have been nice, as would the extra power. Stock 1600cc motors are WAY, WAY too slow.
Ron
I agree with Stan.. make a bid for 18K and hold on to it. If it passes 18 go up to 19. Getting it at 18 would give you a nice start on that 2110 Ron says is needed (I agree in hindsight as a 1776 owner). And remember. Many E-Bay deals are done AFTER a car has been on the block and time has run out. My bro in Law sells boo-coo 4x4s like Scouts and old Broncos on the Bay and I know that sometimes when he doesn't get his asking price and needs to offload something he cuts a sale with one of the last bidders.

If you get it 18-19.5 then look at it compared to a new basic JPS or VS with maybe discs, etc for around 23K. You have saved enough to get Pat Downs a nice start on that 2110..... I think that would be a nice deal. But then I let that Red IM Speedster of Rich's go because I couldn't make up my mind on it..... I should have grabbed it. If you are in the market I think THIS is a deal if the car checks out ok.

Jim
Hey Jim - I too was considering Rich's car, however it was just a little too expensive for me and I've subsequently bought a '54 coupe. I noticed today that there is an ad (placed on 30 June) for the car on collectorcartraderonline.com:

adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/9/8/73744398.htm

Perhaps his deal to ship to Holland fell through, and it might be worth checking out?

Cheers
