Hey All,

This car got almost every option you could put on a speedster in 2003 when it was built. I have all the original documentation and it was delivered to its original owner in Nov 2003. It was then shipped to Carlisle PA for one of the biggest replica car shows in the country and was used as the show car in 2004 for Intermeccanica. Henry (owner of IM) talked to me about the car before I bought it and told me how much he remembered and liked that car and how much extra stuff the owner put into it.

So, options. First off the engine is a CB Performance 2110 with a few extras in it to give it a really good power (rated at 143HP) to weight (~1750 lbs) ratio. Its drivable around town and when you want to get on it, well it gets going very quickly and the sound is awesome as its running a dual Magnaflow performance exhaust setup. Its got a remote oil cooler and an extra oil deep sump resevoir allowing the car to hold between 5.5-6 quarts of oil for added cooling. When I bought the car I drove it home immediately through the smokey mountains for 5 hours and it never even skipped a beat, and the oil sayed within temp limits the whole time even though it was HOT that day.

Sorry, I am going on about nothing here... so the options list as far as I can recollect...

Black Glasurit 1240 paint (perfect in every way)
Roadster reclining tan leather seats with headrests (extremely comfortable and perfect as well)
Stayfast "G" cloth top with low bow frame.
Full tan leather interior including dash and door sides.
VOLO 940 original square weave carpeting (tan)
Full tonneau cover with Tanex German fastners
Air Conditioning (CFC Free) integrated beautifully
3 Speed Heater booster fan
Porsche 356A style low bumper guards chrome
Chrome Grab Handle on dash
Courtesty Interior Lights
Darrington style 15" flat steering wheel with ORIGINAL 356A horn button.
Custom original look signal switch
Floor mounted high beam switch
Right hand matching mirror
All Ivory interior trim
Delay wipers
MPH speedometer
H4 Halogen headlights (55/60 Watt dual power supply)
Custom fitted floor mats in black.
Carrera louvered rear deck lid.
Original sytle door and dash trim
Full sound deadening package (extremely quiet cruiser)
Power windows with hidden under dash switches
Power door locks with 2 keyless entry fobs.
Power outlet on A/C panel (comes with ivory cigarette lighter to fill)
Roll bar chassis mounted removable (black powder coated with tan leather cover)
High end 6 speaker stereo system with hidden XM radio and under dash antenna
1 set of moon hub caps and another original syle nipple hub caps.
Car cover included.
Fire extinguisher and some spare parts (for roadside breakdow) in trunk.

The car starts up and runs out perfect. The car has about 7900 miles on it at this point and you could never tell it left the showroom floor.

Please, let me know if your interested. I am selling it for $37,500 and this is what I paid for it a couple of months ago. Would be happy to help with shipping as I have shipped a couple of cars. I am also told that this is a very good price for the car. There have been several emails regarding it already before I even even put it up for sale. I had henry look at what it would cost to build this car today, and he quoted between 53-55K USD.

I will add some photos tonight, but there are some in my profile photos section. In case your wondering, I am looking to buy a P-Car and need to come up with some cash...but if you talk to my wife, its money for the new house.. (wink wink nudge nudge).

No car picked out yet, but its a whole lot easier to look if you have the cash to buy something when you see what you want. If I sell this car I will probably buy a 356 Coupe of some sort, but if I don't sell it, no sweat. I will pop it on ebay and see what happens there. The IM's usually do pretty well on ebay. I might even put it up on the IM site under the preowned area. Probably the wrong time of year to be doing this with summer more than halfway over for some areas, but I thought I would put it out there and see what happens.

How is your GB Speedster coming along?

James
I need to make an update to the details of the car above. I know this sounds somewhat silly and suspicious, but I am a TOTAL newbie to the air cooled VW engine world. I went through some documents in the book I got from the last owner and checked out the engine docs. The following needs to be updated and can be verified by both engine documents (spec sheet and dyno sheet from Pat Downs) and through the archives of the first owner here on SOC (Brian Hawthornwaite). The owner simply told me that it had the bigger engine, and I assumed it was the 2110.

Engine :

Originally stated as a CB Performance 2110 rated at 143 HP.

Actually CB Performance Ultra 2160 rated at 170HP (but the dyno shows max 154HP @ 5500rpm and 152lbs of torque @ 4500 rpm).

Not sure if this means much to anyone, but its a bit more powerful than originally stated. I couldn't imagine telling a whole lot of difference between the two, but I had nothing to compare it to. All I know is its fast.

Also, my wife found out I put it up for sale as she read an email where I was responding to an interested party, and she freaked!!! I doubt that I will be getting much in the affection department for a while if it sells..she loves this car. LOL

James
Thanks guys... appreciate the kind words. I am in absolutely no hurry to sell this thing, in fact I am sworn to a pact that I was just reminded of... the previous owner told me I had to give him first shot at it if I was going to sell it... He really didnt want to sell it but I convinced him, so I should at least let him know I am thinking about it. Oh well, if I do get interested in selling it, I am afraid I will have to put it on Ebay...

Lane, I think I will still own it for a while so lets whip up some plans for this get together in the mountains this fall. Hell, I have A/C...we could do something on the coast later this summer.. I am sure we could scare up a few people to entertain the idea.. we can call it the First Annual Hurricane Chase?? Whadda ya say?

James
Well, I was about to put the car on ebay to sell it, and my beautiful wonderful awesome wife came to me with a proposition. If I keep it and allow her to drive it "when she wants to", I am allowed to buy a new Cayman or used 911 in the spring. So, I will get to keep the Speedster and buy a car for the track and general everyday driving.

Anyway, gist of the story here is that its not for sale anymore. I got several calls about it, but no offers of money anyway (well, a few scams). It goes into the shop on tuesday to get the clutch dealt with one way or another.

So, I will see some of you guys at tail of the dragon in October, and others at Carlisle next year. I am as excited about this decision as the day I bought it...

James
David, its not for sale anymore, so this next comment is what I would have said in my smart ass way :

David, yes, very flexible when it comes to money.. you can pay me with cash, wire transfer, certified check... anything you like...

Just messin with ya. As I said above, I am happily keeping the car where it belongs.. in my garage. I just went to the dealers site and did some addition, this exact car would come out to just under 60K dollars built today according to the price list they have on the site. I had to add almost every single option they had listed as my car has it. Not trying to sell it, just saying, for 25K off the price to get it delivered to your door, and only 8K miles on it, I think the 37.5K dollars was a good deal.
