When making reservations ask for SOC group rate   $159.00  (all rooms are suites)

Hotel has a poolside BBQ every evening for $6.00 typical hamburger/hotdog/steak sand.

Since we will not have Warren/Karen's hospitality for Friday evening, the BBQ may be a good substitute,

but there are other restaurant options within walking distance.....

Teri will be firming up Dinner for Saturday night banguet at Pappy MacGregor's they have a brick patio at the front of the restaurant.  It's got soft covering for the elements and a wind break similar to beach restaurants at the front.  There are tall french doors leading inside the restaurant and they have several bars inside along with a back patio area with a fire pit. The patio we would be using also has several heaters in case it starts to cool down so it should stay nice and toasty if necessary.  They have plenty of room for 60 people or more and a small bar they can set-up for us on the patio. oh yea, almost forgot, the girls at Pappy's wear short kilts and tight tops.....

If this ends up being acceptable, it ends up saving us the rental of an actual room, so the  dinner cost per person will go down from previous quotes.....As long as we are all together, do we really need our own room anyway....

We are also looking into a "meet for pic's" Saturday mid morning at a local park, I will discus this further with

Scott C. and get something lined up...

Scott C.  had several suggestions for a Saturday cruise, (I think this used to be his "Beat" at some point in his career) but the one that sounded cool to me was a tour of Diablo Neuclear power plant. When was the last time you

were at a neuclear power plant, besides, the road to the plant is a very scenic drive (i'm told)

I will have Teri look into this possibility...

of course there is always the usual wine tours or Hearst Castle tours...

I will use this thread for further postings....

just thought I'd bring this thread back to the top....

There is some banter by some on the other coast that are considering coming West

for our gathering. So we have to make next year really cool if they are willing to drive

all those miles to be with us ...

I am still trying to get together a tour to Diablo power plant, but they do not respond

in a timely fashion, & don't do tours often....

Lets keep this thread going, perhaps that will help some of you get excited about being

together next June....

The power plant is pretty busy right now trying to get a license to do seismic testing. It's not working out real good for them as the usual tree huggers or in this case fish huggers are complaining. I guess they would prefer an incident like they had in Japan.

I am sure Scott has some good ideas for drives. Since we will be a little north this time, there are many different roads with different destinations depending how long people want to be out and what they would like to do. I think Scott should head this up this year, but I would be more than happy to help any way I can. Scott, I am sure we could work this out and check to see if the beer and/or wine are up to it at the end of any proposed drives. Sounds like a cool way to spend a Saturday or any day you can get off for that matter. Let me know.

Latest news concerning  this event....

We will be doing  a tour of the Power Plant....We will meet at 9:00 AM Saturday morning

(I have no control over the time) for security reasons we will need to show identification &

most likely have to give them license plate no. in advance, I will ask for info from everyone

who will be attending the run when I know what and when it is required.

This will also be a photo op of the group with the power plant in the background....

Also, I have been told the special room rates at the hotel will be honored for 4 days

in the event anyone wants to arrive early or stay later....

please start making your reservations early....like now....

Stay tuned for any additional information....

I will not be posting any of this stuff on Facebook, so any of you who do those other speedster

sites on FB, please tell anyone who may be interested....

that's it for now

So......Gerd......you are not going because you think Vince will tie you down at the power plant? I know that Vince is a master of that technique in another type of activity that is really not appropriate for discussion on this forum, but this does not exactly fall into that category. Since I am certain that we would all enjoy seeing how close you resemble your avatar, please reconsider. (I'll take care of the bar bill for all the beer you can drink, plus all the Ho Ho's you can eat.....).

Neat video, Barry. Sure brought back some memories. Jack I know you must be getting into planning stages for your trip next summer and you're a well travelled person but if you need ideas for a couple of hot spots along old 66 just give me a holler. Gallup, NM ( El Rancho ) and Tucumcari, NM ( Blue Swallow Hotel ), Holbrook,AZ ( Wigwam motel ), Winslow, AZ ( "Standin' on the Corner ) to name a

few. Best of the Season to all.

Thanks, David. My wife and I will be taking our motor home, towing the 550 on a rented car hauler. At least that's the plan. We won't be getting east of Flagstaff, as far as I know, anyway, but plan to visit friends in the Phoenix area prior to the big 66 event. We then plan to go up to just east of Kingman and stay at the Blake Ranch trailer park until the festivities are over. If we plan to go toward Amarillo, I'll send you a PM.

Thanks for the info.

Glad you liked it, Jack. I am making plans to attend the 2013 Route 66 event that takes place the first weekend in May in and around Kingman, AZ. They said around 800 cars were there last year. The old road was restored by Clinton during his administration; it runs from Seligman to Topock, AZ---around 90 miles or so. Anything with wheels is welcome.

Hi I am new here and just was looking at coming to this gathering in California so I could get some first hand experience on the 356 replicas. I am looking to buy one in the near future.

I live in Flagstaff and attend this Route 66 event every year. Sure seems like a lot more then 800 cars but I never counted them. It would be interesting to see some 356s there. I have never seen a live 356 at this event. You will see a little bit of everything carwise. For those who have not been this way, you are only a hour or so from Sedona and the Grand Canyon (south rim). Usually beautiful weather for this event; Spring type weather. Or should I say top down weather. I usually run the heater with the top down on the way there but by afternoon it is comfortable shirt sleeve weather. A number of CA car clubs attend. Since I own 50% of all the Triumphs in Flagstaff and one is not running I am always in a minority if the Phoenix group does not attend this event.

Hope to see you all in CA and looking forward to learning about the car and meeting you.

PS If you are wondering I own 2 Triumphs -- TR3 and TR6. There only 4 Triumphs -- 2 TR3 and 2 TR6 in this town of 80,000 people. The other TR6 is not running but the two TR3 run strong.
