Here's a sneak peek of the interior:

I tried to keep the gauges period correct even though they are not in the original location.

GERD won't be making it this year!  No, really!!  Word on the streets in SLO says there will be roadblocks at all points of entry looking for him!!  Last arrest for possession of stolen property (copper cups) from a local pub (see attached photo from the night of the arrest).  Possible reward money for any information leading to his re-arrest!!

Don't forget, if you are so inclined, please bring an time to donate for the Saturday night after-dinner raffle. Does not necessarily need to be an 'automotive' item.

SoCal group, see you all 10:00 Friday morning June 5th at the Topanga Ranch Inn (Malibu)

NorCal group, safe travels!

Safe travels to all.

How long will it take you to get there? What's your ETA?

Oh Markos... you're funny.  It'll be great to meet you.

If you arrive at midnight there is a good chance that you'll walk past half the crew who will be crowded around the fire pit.

First weekend getaway in the Speedster.  How legitimate is the luggage rack? Troy included a nice VS rack and a vintage Samsonite suitcase and I'd like to use it if it isn't too heavy for the drive.

Planning to put my wife's make-up in the case so it shouldn't weight more than 20 pounds total including the case.  Is that too much or should I put her stuff in a duffle bag strapped to the rack? Or a duffle bag thrown behind the seats?

The trek has begun.

Our first long trip in the Speedster. Two hundred miles, Sacramento to Monterey today, where we'll hole up for a couple days before doing the coast road and Big Sur down to SLO on Friday.

We do the trip to Monterey all the time in normal cars and this was a Whole Nother Thing. We actually had to think about packing. Trunk is filled with car stuff - spare tire, tools, carb cleaner, tar and bug remover, rain tarp (they were predicting some for Monterey). That left just the back 'seat' for our stuff - one bag each, one communal bag, jackets - and enough spare room for five or six toothpicks.

Thought it would be easier on domestic relations if we went top up for the long slog - about half of which was on the freeway. And it was. Less noise. No wind buffeting. Able to converse. Got a set of Troy's CruZin Windows for this trip and glad I did. The gap between the windows and the top turns out to be just enough for good ventilation and better view out than with side curtains.

What made this trip easy was the stroker engine. Two up, a hundred extra pounds of gear, and we zipped up Pacheco Pass at 75 mph. Freeway cruising is effortless. The original VS 1915cc would have been hard pressed.

Total trip today, with all the back roads and a breakfast stop, was about five hours - enough time, methinks, for a civilized person to spend in a Speedster in one day. That Stan must be an animal.

Add another five hours to clean all the bugs off, and it was a full day.

See youse guys in SLO.

Load it up and go Robert, nothing to worry about.

Atta boy Mitch!  I think Theron said it best "Traveling in a Speedster isn't so much 'driving' as it is 'motoring'. Motoring for 3+ hours is hard work.

What size stroker motor did you end up with?

Robert - How would your wife feel is she knew that you said her makeup weighs 20lbs?

I still need to put my car back together. I should be able to button 'er up this evening.

Ted, it's a 90.5 x 78.8 Ken Jansen build (which works out to about 2024cc, if I recall).

Mild tune - 110 cam, 40 x 35.5 semi-ported heads, IDF 40's, 1.5" Vintage Speed exhaust. Ken said it's good to about 6200, but I don't take it over 5000. Strong over 3000, and it really comes on 4000 - 5000.

I was concerned about heat, here in Sacramento, so stayed conservative. Some time after the install, we upgraded from the standard VS cooler setup to a Setrab in the wheel well, and that has made a big difference.

Haven't had it dyno'd, but I'm guessing about 110 hp.

Oh man! I have most of those parts already! I just need to tear down this 1915 and replace crank/pistons/jugs!

Yeah, they aren't the best long distance cruisers, but the small gas tank forces you to stop and get out every 150-200 miles, which is a good thing.  I think my longest one-day run is around 450 miles.

Drove the Vintage Speedster home from Deals GAP TOD in one day, 625 miles (Circa 2008). That was an adventure.  Sandy was a troopper as the widebody tub does not have what I call a supple suspension.  I remember being so tired near home that a light turned red and I just drove right through it because I did not feel like clutching.

There were no cars on the road.  The cop that pulled me over was totally cool.  I said we had been driving for 13 hours and just wanted to get home which was a few miles away.  Gave me back my license and said "go home".  I've done long stints in the Intermeccanica too.

Glad to see your out there Mitch.  There is nothing cooler then when I see aother little Porsche or 356 crusing down a road far far from home.

And THAT is why I said, "...including the case,".
