The wheels will sell it. Some bitcoin baby will absolutely overbid.
For $5,600 a set I think there are other choices I'd make. Those are a bit busy for my taste. Gimme a set of the Rudge replicas like @Joe Fortino has.
Expensive, but I have a feeling the wheels are the cherry concerning the auction. I bet it pulls big bucks.
Without knowing what they cost, I wouldn't personally bid more because of them
Rotiform is a young company, founded in CA, supplies to Ferrari GT3 and Challenge race teams and formula drift racers. Kids with trust funds and/or crypto hoards will recognize.
To me they are meh, but I am not this car's target market.
I doubt the wheels will make a substantial contribution. The Rudge-style wheels look better - cost about the same - and didn’t bring more money for the last two VMC speedsters sold on BaT that had them. For me, they’re just too big of a departure from the rest of the car’s style. Don’t get me wrong, they stand out but only because they clash with the car, not add to it.

They're well south of "meh" to me (I think they're repulsive, and make the car look like a high-riding Conestoga wagon), but as you say - we're not the target market.
And they're 17"! WAY too big for a Speedster.
Diamond stitch. Rear sway bar on a swing axle.
Target market is young dumb money. The kind that thinks it's smart money. The bros who didn't lose it all in the FTX collapse. The kids who drove a Speedster in Forza Motorsport 6.
It is a pity that Daniel Verwers no longer caters to their needs.

I’m with you Lane. I looked at HRBB to see what their wide 5 type C wheels cost, but apparently they no longer offer them (understandable since Vintage 190s are 1/4 as much) But I noticed they’ve got into the “944 SSS” craze:
“Type O.” 15”x 4”-14” $POA

Is it, though? Tacky is still tacky. Less tacky is good.

Marty G-to-the-Z had those on his IM Roadster and they looked great.
Marty. We both shoulda kept our IMs. Woulda coulda shouda.

I kept mine...

Every pot has a lid, I’m told.
That car does remind me of somebody's Speedster - except for those wheels...
.
I think this is not for the trust fund kids but for the kids without trust funds who want to hang with the trust fund kids.
And don't be too harsh on the wheels. They just haven't been properly accessorized.
A leather box of fake cash on the back seat and some fitted tie downs for Jack Daniels bottles, and those rims will work a treat.

He really does.

Are those HRBB wheels? I assumed they were stripped polished SSS. Either way, I think they’re one of the really great wheels for Speedsters.
Yes, Chris Coddington did my wheels. But the ones I had made we’re replicas of real 944 spares that I sent him one original in perfect shape. He then tweaked the design for others you see on the website.
Looks great, in an 1880s sort of way. Conestoga wagons are the SHIZZLE!
I saw a very nice '53 Studebaker yesterday. They made Conestoga wagons before they made cars.

Guess I was correct in my assessment of the auction outcome, sold for 75k.
It was a No Reserve auction and the high bid just prior to winning bid was $65,000! It makes no sense to jump a bid by 10k in a no reserve auction when you can bid in increments of $500!
The handle sequence is fairly common, it references the creation date of Peanuts comic series with Snoopy. June 6 1976. I don’t see anything suspicious about it. Plus BAT pulls their buyers fees immediately at close of auction to prevent shill bidding or funny business if that’s what’s being implied, it’s just someone with extra money to spend for a toy. I wish I had an extra 75k to fling about.

No dog in the hunt, but Snoopy was one of the earliest Peanuts characters, appearing for the first time on October 4, 1950, two days after the comic strip's debut.
Thank you, Stan.
And yeah, no idea if the Reddit person (or the Ohio lady) are any relation to the winning bidder here, and I do not intend to find out.
