Who’s back from the cruise? Pics? Adventures?

Ryan, I'll be posting a few pics later today (when I get back on my computer) and I'm sure some folks may be posting a few of their pics as well. I will be doing the usual gathering of everyone's pics and clips to put together a video. When it's complete I will post on here (probably by the ned of the week).

Really sorry I was unable to join y’all. How was the turnout compared to past “normal” years.

Noel, we sure missed you at our gathering, but I hope your recovery is still progressing and you'll soon be back to 100%.

Gathering was small (6 cars 14 SOCers), compared to our high mark of 33 cars at 2018 SLO and 35 cars at 2019 SLO (pre-pandemic lockdown). Aside from the usual schedule conflicts that life presents, some uncompleted SOC builds & engine projects, we also have these insane California fuel prices to deal with. We towed our Speedster and here is the cost of topping off our VW Touareg gas tank.

This MAY have affected the travel plan decisions for some of our fellow California SOCers.

We made it back safe. We took 1 up to Monterey and from there decided to go up 101. Thank God we did as we found @Napa Paul stranded near San Jose. We stayed with him until AAA showed up 2 hours later 🤦‍♂️. Thankfully he's fine and should be getting close to home by now. The second battery died so he definitely has something drawing way to much juice or the alternator is not putting out enough to charge the battery.

Even though it was a small gathering we sure had a blast! 😎👍PXL_20220605_224119875PXL_20220605_194959695PXL_20220605_205603241PXL_20220604_200334797~2PXL_20220604_214120303.MP~2PXL_20220604_200310619PXL_20220604_193525623.MPIMG-20220604-WA0017IMG-20220604-WA0014IMG-20220604-WA0011IMG-20220604-WA0010IMG-20220604-WA0012

I'm so bummed to miss this year. My motor is still at the machinist.

Please take a million photos and videos to inspire the rest of us missing out. I look forward to living vicariously through your adventures.

Too bad you missed it. We went down Santa Rosa Creek Rd. It wasn't the greatest but it wasn't too bad either.

Jim's math isn't what it used to be. It was 7 cars for a total of 14 people. We let @SimplifyTALightness run his Lotus Elise in the group with his wife Michelle. Troy and Sally came in their Miata but had to return to Fresno Friday night and didn't get to go on the cruise with us. So that was 8 cars and 16 people for @MusbJim if he's following the math.

That is really cool @NTrav  @Ryan (formerly) in NorCal has done that in the past as well and it never stops being cool. I like how you added the photos along key parts of the route.

And to answer your question how I found that road, I like to explore and found that one time while wine tasting. Unlike Ryan, I like roads with pavement. It may not always be the best pavement but it’s pavement. And if your tire pressure isn’t at 30psi @Napa Paul 🤪 the ride isn’t too bad.

Nick,

Can that program be used to design a drive as well?

Oh, yes it is!

I forgot to turn my GPS tracker on, but was able to piece together most of the WCC route from @Robert M's paper directions.  The timing's a little off, but this gives a great overview of our drive...

2022 SOC WCC

Epic route @Robert M! I love that you convinced the group to head up Santa Rita. It’s hard to tell from the video, but did you change up the Pozo loop? It looks like you went further southeast than last time.

Relive.cc is built for cyclists and runners, but with some clever conversion you can make it work for car routes too.

BTW, I took the family on Old Coast Rd behind Bixby Bridge earlier this year. Totally rutted out compared to previous years. It would’ve been near impossible in the Speedster. Had I not seen it with my own eyes (and had a working engine), I probably would’ve tried. AAA’s tow truck would’ve had a hard time reaching me and the locals and fire department wouldn’t have been happy with me blocking the road.

Some more road alpha… Cypress Mountain Rd connects Adelaida to Santa Rita Creek Rd. It’s a beautiful dusty fire road through the mountains. There’s a sign saying it’s closed. But it’s not.

My son and I took that last year when the group bailed on Santa Rita due to “poor conditions.” If you’re ever looking for adventure, it’s worth the trip. You definitely won’t see another car.

Unfortunately, no.  Relive feeds on GPS data and can only be used show activities after the fact...no designing drives.
