Bill and Karl,

Did you guys make it to the Swap meet? It looked ugly weather wise this morning so I passed on going to Lewistown for the meet.

Bill , I understand that in your area you had some rough times and the river will crest at 25 feet later tonight .
We had three "Ivan" tornado's out of some 100 in the area last night that did touch down here on farms, they had a lot of local damage and flooding .
Kim and I didn't even hear anything as it was quite still as we watched the local tornado warnings and sightings on TV. It all went just to the west of our home.
Boy, you guys been having quite a fall. Hope the speedies were all safe and snug in their beds! I bet a lot of for sale signs are going to sprout on front lawns in Florida this winter. I know I'd be thinking pretty hard about bailing out, but where do you go if you are a senior and on a limited income. Tough nut for those folks. Hope their insurance comes thru. The insurance stocks all took a beating last week on Wall Street, for good reason.

I didn't make it either. Starting about 10 PM Fri We were getting an inch of rain per hour for 8 hours. Lost power at 2AM Sat. So I was tending the generator.(best$$ I ever spent...next to Speedy of course)
Sun came out Sat noon but the flooding came up. Fishing Creek which is usually a small stream turned into a resevoir thru the entire valley. Glad I'm on high ground!! The river is coming up as I type. Went out for a spin this AM and the roads along the river are starting to go under. It'll all be gone Tues.
Some major arteries thru here are affected as well 22/322 east and west was closed as was the Clarks Ferry Bridge. They are detouring people up I/81 to I/80. The Pa turnpike has some closures as well.

When Kathy and I were in SC, looking at houses, Frances was tearing through Florida. At our hotel in Beaufort, SC, there were a couple dozen or more people from Deltona (just below Melbourne, FLA) who had come that far North, looking for a hotel with vacant rooms.

I was sitting in the lobby, logged into this forum, when a bunch of them met prior to returning the next day (even though they weren't sure they would yet be allowed back in). They called someone who stayed put who told them to buy chainsaws to cut their way through the debris on their streets, and also bring LOTS of gas, and generators if they could find them, as they didn't expect power for over a week.

We had looked in Florida for a while before deciding on South Carolina's "Low Country". We still get socked with Hurricane/flood insurance (anywhere between $1500 and $3500 PER YEAR, depending on where your house is above mean high tide) but we feel it's worth it for the location and town we're in. Great locations never come cheap, I guess......Besides, we've got all those Marines nearby to help us with sand bags!!!!
