HELP>>>>I seem to have seen questions and comments about those square 2"x2" metal tubes going up from the CMC metal frame into the rear wheel well. Didn't seem important at the time to file them in the brain at the time...lost...They just end 3/4 of the way up...what was/are plans for this sturdy but useless? bar...roll bar attachment, door jamb or roof support or optional passenger ejection seat? Can I remove it for oil cooler and/or engine bay vents (I have big type 4 with Porsche type fan) with out affecting the "original? plan?)

I used those mounting bars to fix common CMC butt sag. I jacked up rear after drilling out rivets, added steel straps either side, added liquid nails like adhesive, and rebolted where rivets were.

In looking at a bare under frame, I bet the upright was used to align everything in the jig and also to be used as a mounting point for the steel going side to side and back to support the rear fiberglass. This example has steel added to prevent butt sag (where the upper door openings get wider).

Didn't the CMC roll bar attach to the uprights?
Optional roll bar mounting point to the steel frame was to be welded to the upright. Mounted to support the attachment points on the back of the roll bar.

Bill's got it right!
Those uprights are to hold the side supports for the optional roll bar.
This attachment probably won't display, but you get the idea. The image in the upper left corner shows the upright and roll bar mounting plate against the rear seat sidewall on the passenger side.

@Gordon Nichols, I should get the chicken dinner. I mentioned it first.

But you asked it as a question so that didn't technically make it a statement. But as a consolation price you can get some chicken nuggets from Gordon.
