My wife will often say something about her hair hurting in the speedster, but it's a non-issue for me as well. Bald might not be the most handsome look (debatable, and irrelevant)-- but it is, by far, the most practical hairstyle imaginable, and not just in a speedster.

I married young, just as my hairline had begun to recede. Within 5 years, I looked stupid enough that I just broke out the buzzers- first on a number 2 setting (1/4"), but eventually on a number 1/2 (1/16"). I've not used shampoo in 25 years. I look the same whether I spend 30 seconds or 30 minutes grooming. I've not paid for a haircut in my adult life. Buzzing tight beats shaving (which I've also done) by a mile. If you shave your head, you better be ready to reshave every couple of days. A nice tight buzz lasts me 2 weeks.

Plus, I'm pretty fully aerodynamic. I've come to think of baldness as a gift.

Some serious thread drift here, but I'll chime in (again).  I haven't made the mental leap to the aero-hair yet, so I always wear a hat when the top's down.  I'd do that anyway for sun protection.  My dermatologist has been after me for several years to give up on the convertible thing.  After more than a few spot freezings and biopsies, I am coming around to her view.

As another follically-challenged Speedster driver, I couldn't help but notice these two recent observations:

If you have ever lost a hat these little things are great to insure you do not lose another one. I most always wear a baseball style hat when sailing or driving the Cobra and the Speedster, turn it around with the bill out back and 'kap keeper' clipped to the bill and to the collar of my shirt or jacket or it can be clipped to the hat adjustment band if worn correctly. I lost my favorite hat overboard in MX many years ago and lost a couple others too before finally finding the 'kap keepers'...haven't lost one since

They run from about $6.00 to $10. I use a cheapy 'Chums' one about $6.00...

I knew from an early age what fate had in mind for me, seeing my bald dad and those two photos of my long-departed and hairless grandfathers glaring down at me ominously from the mantel. For me, it was just a matter of time.

But seeing how many others on this forum are similarly stricken, I wonder if there's not some connection there.

If I were a grad student in Psychology today, anxiously in search of a thesis topic, I think I might be looking at the causal relationship between androgenetic alopecia in mid-century American males and mid-life Speedster obsession.

And oh, since this DID start out as a gearing post, here's some essential head gear for those of us with acute androgenetic alopecia. You can still get a nice, thick real wool beanie from L.L.Bean (irony noted) that's long enough to pull down over your ears and the back of your neck.

BeanWoolCap

This and a pair of decent gloves - not those froufrou things that Marty wears - and a thermos of Joe is all you need against wintry blasts, no matter how severe the alopecia.

Motor on, Stan.
