Hello
Have been searching a lot in this forum regarding retrofit
of a 3 (4) point seatbelt on a Vintage Speedster.
Today I only have a lap-belt (2 point), but would like to
update for more security (especially for my kids).
Most of the solutions described in here are using the floor
behind the seat to anchor the 3'rd point.
In the linked article they use the firewall, anyone here who have used
this solution ?
I guess the car in the article is a real 356 (not replica), so
maybe the firewall is more rigid ?
Just to anchor in fiberglass in the firewall is maybe not rigid enough,
even if you use big washers.
Any information / replies is appreciated :-)

Thanks for your replyes :-)

Wolfgang, that seeks like a good spot- thanks for pictures, but I am a little concerned when thinking about what Aaron says.....
Have been reading this several places, but to get it higher than shoulderheight is nearly impossible. But then I thought that the
firewall seems quite high.

Also checked my firewall- this is also indeed double.
But maybe its possible to find a sollution there....

Have anyone her used the firewall as a 3'rd point ?

Best regards
Ove

In JPS kits, the "third point" of the seat belt is mounted to the vertical steel upright that is at the rear of the doors, just underneath the fiberglass body. This upright is part of the steel subframe and it secures all the door latching hardware.

The belt (and small automatic retractor) is mounted at the top, just over the drivers left (passenger's right)shoulder. For my stature, 5'10", it is at shoulder height and is quite comfortable for extended driving.

Hope I never get to functionally test it!
Maybe the number 28 belt in this link ? :

I think this could be fitted vertically on the 2x2" cross member which Wolfgang showed pictures of ?
With the retractor it's easier for movement when sitting in the seat.

I don't like the to attach to upper part of door post like the JPS when
I cant see what is behind the fibreglass on my Vintage...

I use Crow Enterprizes belts. This is the link to their installation instructions. Note the angles of the installed harness and seat belts. If can't get the proper angles, you may have to modify your frame. I discussed harness installation with Carey and was made aware of the dangers of spinal compression. Harnesses are good, but must be installed and mounted correctly to frame members...NO fiberglass or sheet metal. The photos you have shown above of the "Y" shoulder harness mounted: appear to be mounted through fiberglass with fender washer backing without proper supporting frame member...My opinion. A false sense of security???

I live in Norway, and according to norwegian law, we have to secure our children under 135 centimeters with at least 3 point seatbelt.
Today I have 2 point belt (lap belt), but want to secure myself and my children better.
A third point secured in the floor behind the seat (or on the 2x2" under the backseat) must do more good than only having a lap-belt ?( because you then have a lap-belt + a belt boltet in the floor).

Thanks for all your inputs- keep'em coming ;-)

Best regards
Ove
