pure 6061 aluminum...

that would last about a week as a daily driver before it got bent.

great for a drag wheel, but if the car is going to see bumps inthe road / potholes, i would not get those.

they look pretty, and are hella light, but will not remain round / true for very long
Jim's been in the ICU fighting for his life for 10 weeks now (see the thread in "Anything Goes"), so he'll probably not answer the p-mail-- but I'll jump into the fray.

Jim's car, George Brown's car, and Brooks Walton's car all have the same "Bivens" wheels from West Coast Haus (Jim's are polished, the others are satin). The wheels were on the black outlaw "Excellence" speedster from an issue in '05 or so-- there is a shot of that car's rear wheel on the auction. I'm sure there are many more in service, but these are the ones I know about.

Obviously, the wheels aren't as stout as steel Mangles, but they have proved themselves to be reliable and beautiful in many 356 applications, real and replica.

Without offering an opinion about relative value (and really, who among us can render unbiased judgment in that regard), the wheels are fine for your application. They are a lot of money, but then so is most anything related to this hobby. I haven't been able to justify buying them, but give me some time-- I've crossed every line I've drawn for this hobby.

They are REALLY nice wheels.
take a piece of 6061 aluminum in your hand while standing. Drop it onthe concrete. Did it nick? Oh ya. aluminum is strong / lightweight, but not meant to be made exclusively for wheels.

Heck - i have owned a set of BBS wheels that were a composite Alumnium / magnesium.

light & cool looking? yes.
were they a PITA to get straight? yes
Do they last? Depends how you drive over potholes / speedbumps.

I like those wheels, but weigh (excuse the pun) the cost / benifit over how long you plan to own the wheels factoring in how you will drive your car.

God - i sound like a friggin analyist. if you like em - get em, just be careful over bumps. :-)
