To see if you can put a Speedster glass body on a 912 pan, start by measuring the wheel base. Go center to center, or front to front of tire if the tires are the same size. If the wheel base length is identical then you would want to measure width... again, center of rim to center of rim or outer wheel to outer wheel and inner wheel to inner wheel. I think the outer will be critical because you are addressing the Speedster body, not your pan/suspension clearance. Keep in mind that you can shorten the Porsche pan just as you would a VW Type 1 pan, however, the tire track width would be a different story. On that one you may have to change wheel backspacing to accommodate the outer fender wells of the Speedster body. (Basically fit the wheels inside the wheel wells.

Have you ever thought of cutting the top and windshield posts off the 912 or 911 and putting the Speedster windscreen on it? I've seen it done and it looks cool.

Take a look at a 911/912 and you'll see that you can not put one of these bodies on a the pan.

First, there is no pan.

Second, the front suspension incorporates a strut and I think that the upper mounting point is too high to fit under the body. Plus the upper mounting point is part of the inner fender.

Third, the upper rear shock goes into a cross member that is part of the uni-body.

Having said that, you could fabricate a frame to accomadate the 911 suspension and fit the body.

What about a buggy frame modified to accept the 911 parts (but I still don't think you'd get the front struts in there) and the speedster body?
