Hey Guys,

What's up, it's been a while since I posted. I've been driving the hell out of my speedster and really enjoying it.

I have a little dilemma, some may say a good dilemma ? looks like I may be purchasing a 86 911 Carrera, this weekend  I'm getting it at a very good price, I would be stupid to pass this up. it's a very good car, well maintained.

The dilemma, is I can only keep one, I've had my vintage speedster for a year now and have really enjoyed it. On the other hand I've always wanted a 85 thru 89 911 Carrera.

I think I absolutely know which one I will keep, but I would like some opinions out there. If you had a vintage speedster replica and a 86 911 Carrera, both in good condition in the garage, and you had to get rid of one, which car would you say good bye to ?

Thanks, Art

FWIW - and speaking only of my personal perspective as having owned many Porsches (several 911s) and currently an older VS...

While the Carrera is a beautiful machine and may be hard to find, IMHO it won't replicate the thrill/gratification/fun/conversation-piece/attention afforded by the Speedster EVERY TIME you drive it. The novelty of the Carrera will wear off much quicker than the joy of driving the Speedster.

As for ...'you can always get another Speedster', consider that there is NO GUARANTEE that we will live to see tomorrow!

You expressed that you've 'been driving the hell out of the Speedster and really enjoying it'. I'd stay with the philosophy of...'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and continue with 'really enjoying the Speedster. I'm just saying...

Comes down to what is motivating you. I'd draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper, head one side Speedster the other 911 and list all the advantages I can think of under the headings. The same advantages may pop up for each. Assign a numerical value to each based on gut ( 1 to 10). For instance, "Economy of operation" might pop up for both and the value you decide is different for the 911 than for the Speedy.

You might even have an advantage for one that is none existent for the other.

Add the columns up.

Now right down the disadvantages for each and do the same exercise.

Deduct the total of the disadvantages columns from the respective advantages column.

High number wins.

This process has helped me because it makes me weigh all the elements I can think of and reduces the process down to something I can grasp.

NOTE: Probably not a good tool for choosing which tool to defend yourself with in a fight. Too time consuming.

Good luck!

Well, I did purchase the 86 speedster, it's one heck of a car. As I mention, I got it for a very good price, I wasn't going to pass it up.

I've decided to sell them both, and re-group, and then buy another car, what I don't know.

First sell the Speedster, then the Carrera.

My Speedster is a Vintage 2006, with 20,500 km. which converts to about 12,700 miles on the road . it's silver with red interior.

Thanks, later, Art, life is good. See the for sale post, in the classifieds.
