Ron O., The G50 is VERY big and heavy; a 901 with a modified 915 shifter (aftermarket quick-shift and "gated" modification) works very well.
Don't go overboard with top gear ratios; a 5-speed is for close ratios - a gear for all seasons - with a 5th gear that gives a good cruising speed at 3,200 to 3,500 RPM.

George,
What 5th did you use? The 914 higher 5th? What are the pro-cons on the 901 matched to a high cc stroker now that you've had a few years and two IMs experience with it? I know, rooky Qs, but I appreciate the advice, etc.

Jim, stock 901 R/P's are all 7/31; my ratios are:
1st 12/34, 2nd 19/32, 3rd 23/28, 4th 26/25, and 5th 29/23
Approx. speeds in gears @ 7,000 RPM with 195/65 tires:
1st 41, 2nd 69, 3rd 95, 4th 122, 5th 148
This 2nd gear is a good town cruise gear for 30 mph speed limits. Note that this 2nd gear requires a 904 input shaft (about $700).
Bigger engines usually have lots of smooth, usable torque throughout the entire RPM range.

Thanks for the info George. I'll ask a few more Qs in a mail headed your way Tuesday a.m.
Thanks again,

I think the 3:88 R&P is a good compromise for the street and the 4:12 is a better choice for street&strip duty. Since speedsters are so light the 3:88 should not hinder performance to badly.
