Are you looking at purchasing new wheels (4x130 bolt pattern)?  Maybe something wider, like 5.0 or 5.5 inches?  If so, get a wheel with lots of offset.  40 to 45mm would give you more fender clearance, but unfortunately most VW bolt pattern wheels don't come with that much offset.

Craig, they are not the same thing. They both describe the same end result, but are not the same thing. The usually available rims are 3.75" backspacing, either 4.5" or 5.5" rims. The rims are listed as A20, but 3.75" backspace actually measures as about 1"(A25) positive offset on the 5.5" and positive 1.5"(A38) on the 4.5".

But to the original point, a 4" backspace would push your rims in by 1/2", which would give you the clearance you're looking for.

All good info guys. So, I want less backspacing right. Here are the rims that have 4" backspacing--read how they dog American Eagle right on their site--hope they have proof.

Here's an idea. Would be nice to see a library entry where guys can post specific pics under headings-ex--My Wheels, Interior colors, exhaust setups and tones etc. Then we all would spend less time searching--someone pass this onto ADM if you think it would benefit all.

Thanks all,
