Hey all, its been a while since I've been on here. Hope everyone is doing well.

I want to replace the standard belts on my Beck with vintage racing style 2 pointers (although I said 4 points on the post, I realize this is not possible). Has anyone done this? How difficult is it to blot the belts in, and most importantly, where can I find them!

Use the main anchoring points for the 3 point factory belts, as they are directly attached to the main chassis. Pull the belt reel, and attach there. Pull the receiver and attach there. Pull the upper loop for the shoulder bely and plug it off. You can use a generic plastic body panel plug to cover this hole.
I like the vintage Simpson harnesses. Summit Racing is a good source, and always been quick to ship belts as long as you want red or black. Their other colors are typically made to order. I've had platinum belts take over 2 months.
Hey Jeremy,

Not sure if this is the look that you are after. I was going to install a strap guide behind the seat to keep the shoulder belt from falling over, but decided against it. I want the option to slide myself sideways in case of a rollover. knock on wood! I mainly wanted the shoulder straps so I don't eat my Nardi horn button in case of a collision.

Tom and Bob - thanks for the compliment.

I actually got it from a guy on thesamba.com a while back. He said he picked it up at a VW swapmeet in CA. The shoulder belt mount with one bolt against the vertical surface below the back seat. I used a 2.5 inch washer to prevent pulling thru the glass (middle pic). I do have to say that if you are a little bit healthy round the waist, the lap belt may be short. This being mounted on the same location as the stock VS hole. I don't believe the shoulder harness is a problem.

Bob - the only information on the product was this (AssVault TM AV143) I tried google without much luck to find the manufacturer. There are plenty of similar products if you search for 4pt or 3pt harness!

Here's a similar ad on the samba, (I don't know this person) You can leave out the crotch strap and get the same effect. It does take a few seconds to strap yourself in..annoying if you are in a rush.

Just another way you might consider installing shoulder straps. The seat belts are attached to the brackets with pit pins available at tractor supply stores and bolted through the floor and "washer" beneath the floor with grade 8 bolts. The 5th point strap doesn't show in the photo. I got these belts on eBay for $118 for the pair. The seller was great to deal with. You can go here http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Safety-Direct to see the varieties of styles and colors they offer. I am happy with the product, not having to have tested it yet under adverse circumstances.

Doug, I bought the rollbar from CMC when I bought the "kit" in '88. I have seen them for sale here, but a lot of people also have negative things to say about them. They are described as decorative rollbars, and I agree that they are far from a NASCAR rollbar, or even SCCA; but they may be better than nothing at all...or not. I have never heard of a Speedster rollover where a rollbar of any design was tested. I think two support braces emanating from the top horizontal bar back down to the frame at approx 45 degrees would be a big plus, but then, just about anything can be improved upon. Anyway, with the addition of the lower horizontal bar, it does make a pretty handy shoulder belt mount approximating the way they were intended to be mounted. Unless the area of the backup washer was measured in terms of square feet (greater than one), I would probably question the strength of any seat belt attach point bolted only to fiberglass, rather than a steel floor or frame. Just the rambling thoughts of an old man. Good luck. /john
