The car is currently registered in California with the proper inspection and exemption from the DMV with a vanity license plate - 19550RS.
The original owner who built this car went a little over the top. He started with a Chamonix chassis and body from Brazil and had it built by Fibersteel in California with their special aluminum alloy inner body panels (following):
Alloy brake air cooling ducts.
Alloy oil cooler belly pan and louvered grill.
Alloy Fuel tank surround (compartment).
12.5 Gal. Alloy racing type fuel cell, with correct billet alloy 550 flip top fuel cap.
Heavy duty .125" 6061 T6 Alloy floor pan.
Alloy front inner and outer fender wells.
Full alloy racing interior.
Alloy inner and outer rear fender wells.
Alloy rear clam shell spare tire surround with reverse lightening holes.
Alloy inner and outer rear fire wall and engine bay.
(Here’s a link to Fibersteel of a similar car, they no longer build these special alloy paneled cars. The last one was sold last year and listed at $75,000.)

In addition, the normally fixed air cleaner panels on the rear fenders were made operable and the vents cut out, most 550 replicas have these molded into the fibergalss for looks only. These are actually functional to service the air cleaners and to cool the tires; remember back in the 50s, the bias-ply tires were sensitive to heat degradation at high speeds - so this is as close to the real 550RS as a kit car gets. Then the car was given a $15,000 paint job.
This Porsche 550RS Sypder replica is in beautiful condition throughout.
Power comes from a CB Performance 2165 cc Type I motor by Pat Downs, with Weber carbs delivering a torquey 160 hp. to a Rancho Pro street transmission, with a 3:88 final drive, making it a great freeway flyer.
It drives well for a 1500lb car with 160hp, acceleration is good, disc brakes on all fours. These are actually better performance specs than the original Porsche 4 cam with 130 very peaky horsepower and drum brakes.
