first 550 that I’ve seen running BRM wheels.

Very cool! It looks (to me) like the BRM was around for quite a while before the American VW crowd discovered it, which was shortly before it was discontinued by Speedwell because of VW's change from 5x205 to the 4x130 mm bolt pattern. I've never seen that advertising- where'd you find it?

Surely not same strength or weight savings but there are replica BRM wheels for not much $ - They also have the BRM center caps. Available in 4.5 and 5.5 x 15". And also other bolt patterns.

I don't understand those old ads at all.
Why would a woman shopping for wheels for her sports car sit down in the weeds next to one, wearing a bathing suit and high heels?
And you'd think they would have cropped in on the wheel a little closer.
Makes no sense at all.

When I first saw that picture (albeit on my phone) I though it was an advert for vintage wheels to customize your wheelchair!
"infamouse"
Man, a pair of side draft Strombergs would be oh-so-cool on a Type 1.

Are we talking about the wheels or ???
The original BRMs were known to crack , more so when they got older , just like any old magnesium wheel ,
if you are going to buy aluminum repro ones try and find a set of Flat 4 ones from Japan
